Hello everyone!
Here is the long awaited diary of Megan and Leanne so far (hope you like the photos also!)
Thursday 28th was a day to remember as we had our first Auzzie BBQ! Our good friend and room mate Numo was leaving (sob sob) so he cooked a bbq in the hostel and invited some of his friends came too. He also got some tin foil and vege stuff for megan too so the Vege could join in! We met a really cool bloke Roger with his dog Byron and he lives in his van! So we went and had a nose around to see what it was like! The van has surround sound and is kitted out like a proper house it was so amazing! After a day off sorting things out it was nice to relax by the pool in the hostel amonst friends. Megan went to bed because she was still feeling snotty and Leanne stayed up with a beer and good company.
Friday 29th - After a tearful goodbye to Numo we headed into town to by some fresh fruit and veg from rustys market (its all harf price after 3pm!!)where we came across this charity shop. We were looking for a t shirt for when we go snorkling so decided to take a look. We were excited because we saw a sign ' Bag of clothes for $5'. When asking the lady there was was no catch! So we went round the shop (Leanne finding dress number 2 to buy!!A dress a week so far!)and found a t-shirt and dress for $5 :) Thats what we call budgeting at its finest!!
Saturday 30th- Bit of a boring today. We had to book up and coming hostels and plan our trip for the next few weeks. We had dinner with 2 friends from the hostel, Laura and Lindsay. Headed into town in the evening to look at the noght market and had our usual nightly smoothy and Crepe. Had a sit down on the grass with Laura as there was a man playing a Digeridoo which was very relaxing. True Auzzie culture! Went for a drink at a local pub and talked about the day we leave and our problem with carrying our backpacks into town at 6am as the bus service doesnt start til 9am. We racked our brains and Megan (the brainy one!) came up with idea that all we needed was a trolley to wheel into town for our bags! So we didnt knwo how we were going to aquire this trolley however when walking to the bus stop after our drink by fate(this is a TRUE story, honest) there was not 1 but 2 trolleys on the pavement. We were shocked at our luck they we even found 1 let alone a choice of sizes and colours! So we wondered all the way back to the hostel pushing an empty trolley!(what an eco friendly way of transport!) and by using a trolley rather than a taxi on friday we will be saving about $15!So 'dodger' (the trolleys name!) has not been transformed into Megan and Leannes Taxi service for Friday and has been decorated with leaves and dead twigs for the trip!watch this space to see how it goes!!
Sunday 31st - After an adventurous night we woke up and headed into town again! We were heading to the market when our friend Laura was in the sky diving shop about to head off to do hers! We were talking to one of the instructors and he asked if we wanted to go and watch Laura jump out of a plane! So we thought b***** the food shopping and hopped on the Skydiving bus (with our green bag ready for shopping) full of other people doing the jump and heading for our first trip outside of Cairns! We found this very funny as the instructors do videos for each person and they kept panning round and filming everyone on the bus and there was us at the back with our shopping bags rather than a harnis!Other people on the bus probably thought we hopped on thinking it was a public bus service! We watched Laura jump out of the plane which was amazing and so exciting and then headed back with the team!!On returning to our hostel and wondering what new faces were going to be in our room we found a lovely surprise awaiting us! Our friend (Andrea A.K.A The italian Mr Bean) who left just before Numo had returned! It was such a lovely suprise! So we had a chat and caught up with him adn then headed into town again to Rhino bar for a FREE meal (with some vouchers we got) and after than had a smoothie and Crepe!!
Monday 1st September - After a busy week sorting things out we headed out of Cairns to the Botanical gardens it was AMAZING! We got the bus(which we waited hours for!) and took the short ride to the gardens. It was a lovely day so we went prepared with insect repellent. There were so many different types of flowers and trees and plants. We took so many photos and then walked through the forest by a guided path to a beautiful lake. The walk through the forest was so peaceful and beautiful. Hope you like the photos we added:)
Tueday 2nd September - Today we decided to take a dip in the Lagoon in the centre of Cairns. It was a beautiful day so we headed down and layed and swam in the Lagoon with the great company of Andrea. Relaxed and chilled out- cant beat the life of a traveller!!
Wednesday 3rd Setemper- Today we had a bus trip booked for a town called Prot Douglas just outside of Cairns. The bus picked us up outside the hostel and we took the trip up the valley with some amazing views of Cairns and the surrounding area. The roads were quite windy but the tour was good from the driver and told us alot of history and useful things (which we will never use) but handy to hear! We also saw our first Kangaroos!!!!They were in the distance in a field so no photos but we very very excited and made us realise even more that we are in Australia. We spend the whole day here. Had a look around a few shops and headed for the first sighting of an auzzie beach. It was beautiful. With coconut trees all the way up the shore and the odd one that had fallen on the beach, the area was quiet and relaxing so we set our camp up on the beach and dozed with the sun and sea by our feet. After a relaxing day and catching too much sun(leanne buring her ankles and getting more tan lines than a zebra!)we headed back to the hostel where Andrea was cooking us dinner the italian way!
So today is thursday and we leave Cairns to start travelling tomorrow. Our first stop if Townsville and then Magnetic Island. We will be travelling down the east coast for about 2 weeks and then hopefully finding work in Brisbane for a few months. So if you dont hear from us dont worry its just we are busy being travellers! We have had a great 2 weeks here in Cairns and it will be sad to leave the place and people behind.
Hope all is well back home and look forward to hearing from you all soon
thanks for the messages on the blogboard!
