Milene in Africa
Sorry it has been so long, but life is crazy in Mikandani (the suburb outside Mombasa where I live and work). And the internet here is very slow as well. Thank you very much for your messages...it's great to know that I have so much support back home (Brazil and UK). This weekend I am going to Tsavo East and Tsavo West game parks for a Safari (2 days, 1 night), so I should have some great pictures to share with you all next week. This week I went out with the teachers to buy some supplies for the school. Elizabeth, Ceri and me added all our funds together and we managed to pay for : all the school exam papers (years 1 to 8), full uniforms for 21 children that could not afford new ones, 20 new books for the school, including revision books to prepare students for their exams and enough medicine (paracetamol, cotton wool, gauze, etc) to last at least for 6 months. It was a tough day, but I never felt so happy as today when the children tried their uniform and thanks us. For most of them it will be the only thing they will get given in the whole year. I also met a Portuguese lady who lives in Lamu, a coastal town in Kenya where time has stopped, and she makes fabulous African dresses, so yesterday I got measured for one... I can't wait. So that's me for this week...ah, I also had the best Indian curry I've ever had on Wednesday...hmmm...yummy! And i met a girl who just came back from climbing Kilimajaro. Hope you are all well and I'll let you know more about my Safari next week! Take care!
