Milene in Africa
Lamu: the place where time stopped! Since we had a few days off because of exams in our school, we decided to go to Lamu and spend a few days there. Some of the locals call it paradise and it is a very beautiful place in deed. It was a holiday for us and a chance to swim and sunbathe for a bit. There are no roads or cars in Lamu and the Main Street is nothing but a wider alley than all the other ones that criss-cross the town. It was a long 8 hour journey on the public bus to get there, including passengers carrying live chickens and the newspaper for all the little villages we drove through. It was an interesting journey (that's me lacking words to explain it). We had a few very good days, including a full day dhow trip (sailing). The food was great and the whole place, although being a huge Muslim community, feels like a hippie settlement. We met up with Jo (the Portuguese lady who makes kanga dresses) and her boyfriend. We had a lovely meal at her house and just really chilled out. Sunday it was back to reality and the busy life of Mombasa. This is now my last week, so I'll try to update my journal once more before I go. Hope you are all well.
