Hey Everyone
Hope that you are all OK back in the UK. I hope that it is not too cold and rainy there. The following is an update on the rest of our time on thailand islands. Hat Rin in Koh Phang Yang ended up to be good couple of days. Even though it was very commercialised there, it had its advantages as it had a simpsons and Freinds bar. On one night, a group of us stayed up till midnight to watch the last series of friends. It was great as its suprising how nice it is to sit and relax watching TV. Also every morning we went to a simpson resturant to have breakfast so that was cool. On the first night we were there we went to a beach party which was wicked and great fun. The music was really funky and the party did not end till it was light (about 6am). At about 2am it started to rain. Normally the rain would wreck an outdoor party, but no one seemed to care. Therefore it was wicked dancing on the beach in the rain in the early morning hours. We all got wasted drinking buckets of spirits. The cheapest and most effective bucket was called samsung which was thai whisky/brandy, lemonade and red bull. It knocks your socks off and matt was extremely drunk of it !!
We then spent three nights on Ko Samui and it was really beautiful here. Its the biggest of the three islands and its where all the holiday backpakers go for a package holiday. They even have a starbucks in the town which was bizzare. Our accomodation was really nice as we had hot showers and a swimming pool. Neither of us have had a hot shower for over two weeks so it was the best feeling ever. We Went into the town Cheung and got wasted for Amys birthday. It was her birthday on the 2nd of October and it was very weird spending it in Thailand with people that we had only met for two weeks. The town there was awesome, with some really funky and wicked bars. Had lots of cocktails and got very drunk. Even went to a club which featured Thai dancing girls (a bit like a strip club). Think they were prostitutes as well as they were numbered but it was still very funny. Celebrated the night with the group of friends that we met on the diving course and are currently travelling with. We all get on great so the atmosphere on the night was wicked !!
After Samui we travelled across thailand to the west as we wanted to do some island hopping over there. However on the ferry to get back to the mainland, matt fell asleep and did not get off. I (amy) was panicking like crazy, i thought he had falllen off the boat as he was no where to be seen. After 10 mins i searched the boat again and i found him sleeping at the back of the ferry. Normally we would have seen the funny side, but because we were late getting off the boat, it meant we had missed our connecting bus to the bus station. All of our bags were on the bus and it had left without us. The freinds we were travelling with, and me included was not amused, and after some shouting at some thai people, the bus came back and got us. However the thai people had sold all of our bus tickets to some local people so we had to stand on the bus for two hours. Everyone on the bus was shouting at us, and there was a crazy lady on there with a monkey who kept on peeing and pooing everywhere so it was not the best ride !!
Went to Phuket for one night and it was nice but it felt like a mini Bancock. Not sure if you have ever seen the film The Beach with Leo Decaprio in but the hotel that was featured in the film was where we stayed for the night. It was mad, not the nicest place to stay but it was cheap and cheerful. we shared a room with two of our friends and it cost us 1 pound each !! Got a pic of the room and door that was featured in the film so that was pretty cool !!
We then caught a ferry to the isalnd Phi Phi Don which was gorgeous. The nicest Thai Island by far. The scenary is beautiful and the beaches were amazing. We did a sunset trip to Phi Phi Ley which was 5 minutes from the island we were on and it was the actual island in which The Beach (the film) was filmed. It was the most gorgeous island ever. No one lives on there so it has not been destroyed by chains like Starbucks, and when you are there you feel like you are a million miles away from normality. It is so peaceful and calm there and the scenary is just breathtaking. There is one beach there and it is amazing. You have to walk through the jungle to get to the beach (as featured within the fim) and we were just in awe of the island.
On the trip, we did some snorkelling and some kayaking so it was cool. However when we got back on the boat after visiting maya bay (which is the beach featured in the film), the boat broke down. The engine would not start so we were stranded for an hour at sea waiting for help. This was not good as I (amy) suffer from sea sickness and it was very choppy and there were lots of waves. Even the peole who organised the trip were throwing up over deck as they were sea sick. Finally some french guy on the boat got the engine to start so we were able to get back to land. That night all of us who did the trip were having dinner and we kept on swaying as it still felt as thou we were on the boat at sea !!
The Tusnami hit the west islands really bad and Phi Phi Don was particulary damaged. We stayed there for 4 nights and it was really interesting and upsetting to see all the buildings that were destroyed. There is so much construction work going on there as the town was basically wiped out. It was quite sad to see the destruction that the disaster caused but everyone on the island is in good spirit and were very friendly and cheerful. A thai guy we were talking to told us that his long boat got destroyed and so he had no money or income. However someone back in the UK ( a hairdresser) donated him some money so he could buy another long boat. This person is coming out to see him soon so he was very grateful for the british.
We then went to Krabi which is a coastal town back on the mainland. Its a lovely little sea side town, with lovely beaches and high sandstone cliffs. It was very pretty and we really liked it there. It was one of our favourite places in thailand. We had left all of the people that we met on the diving, so it was back to just the two of us. It was weird being back to just us two, but it was nice to spend some quality time with each other. However we are all meeting up when we get to Perth in Austraila so it will be one hell of a reunion!! Krabi was very cheap so we stayed in nice accomodation (with hot showers) and it was wicked. The main beach in Krabi is called Riley beach and it was supposed to be gorgeous. We planned a big day there on our last day, but to our dismay we had a day full of heavy rain. Was really gutted as we could not go there in the end, oh well its just the welsh luck !!
We have now left the islands and beaches and are heading to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. we are so excited to go there as the city has the largest building in the world (the petromas towers). We are spending 3 nights in Kuala lumpur and we are then heading to singapore for three nights. Its all go go go from now on !!
Well i hope you have enjoyed reading this, we will update the journal next when we get to Austrailia in a weeks time. Will let you know how we found malaysia and singapore !!
Lots of love, we have put more photos on now so you can see more of the islands
All our love and more
