Matthew & Amy On Tour
Hello All
Well me and matt have had a great trip so far. We arrived in Bankok on tuesday after a 15 hour flight. It was the most exhausting flight ever as neither of us slept !! We were very jet lagged on the tuesday so we slept all day (not the most exciting way to start the trop, we are so hard core)
We are staying in a 5 star hotel so we have had a bit of luxury in the last few days. However am sure for the rest of the trip it will be basic accomodation !! We started our sight seeing and shopping on the wednesday, and there was alot to cram in !! The shopping here is amazing, must be the best in the world. In the centre of bankok there must be at least 15 massive shopping centres that have 5/6 floors and sell everything that you can imagine . In the last few days we must have gone into about a thousand shops. Its nuts !! Bankok is very very cheap, but most of the clothes over here are fake so you are paying cheap prices for fake Roxy and Billabong items. We have bought a couple of items of clothing, but did not go mad as we have to carry it for the next year .
In the last 3 days me and matt must have walked about 25 miles, so we are looking forward to relaxing on the beach tomorrow. Its very humid here in the city and it is very polluted due to all of the traffic. Since we have arrived, its been very cloudy and has rained quite a bit, but is still boiling. Have never felt heat like it, it makes a change to Freezing wales and England. The people here are really friendly, but sometimes they do not stop harrassing you. They run after you asking you if you want anything, so me and Matt just run away from everyone. The food here is stunning, we have had some lovely meals. An average meal is about 50 bart which is under a pound so we have ate like kings. The only thing that is expensive here is the beer. On one occassion our beer came to more than our 2 meals put together, so we can not afford to get drunk yet !!!!
Yesterday we went to the Royal Grand palace where the king of thailand lives, and it was the mst beautiful and magnificant building that you will ever see !! The palace is beautifully crafted and is full of colour. Buckingham palace seems so boring when compared to the thailand palace. Yesterday we also visited a gold plated reclining budda which is about 46 meters long and 16 meters high. It was quite a sight !!
To get around in bankok, you travel by tuk tuk which is a three wheel motor, that is open and has a couple of seats in the back. That in it self is quite an experience, as it feels as thou you are in a go kart. The roads here are manic and the drivers of the tuk tuk are crazy. They drive in between cars and they drive on the wrong side of the road.
We have visited patpong outdoor night market which is famous for its clothing and accessories but is also famous for the sex shows !!! . Some of the shows looked interesting.......(and involved ping pongs, blowing smoke, and eating with chop sticks) All of these were perfomed using your private parts .We did not go into any of the shows, but am sure it would have been quite a remarkable sight. There was also a gay strip where all the gay men and lady boys go, but mat did not want to visit there so can not really commment on that !!
It has been a wicked coupe of days in bankok, however we are both exhausted so we are ready to leave. It will also be nice to breathe in some freash air. We are leaving this evening and are travelling over night to go to Koh Tao which is an island off thailand. Its supposed to be beautiful, with white sand and clear seas. I have decided that i will do my paddy diving course and matt will do his advanced diving course there so we will stay there for about a week. We are then going to travel to the islands Koh Pha Ngan and Ko samui. Basically we will just realx and chill for three weeks, and do alot of sunbathing and swimming. The internet access on these isalnds may be limited, but if we get on to a computer, then we will update the journal
Being in bankok has been a culture shock as there was some terribly poor places in the city which was quite upsetting to look at. Its so different from any place that we have ever visited, and it is truley the city that never sleeps. If you want a shopping holiday then we would recommend Bankok as you will save alot of money !!
Goodbye for now, please leave us messages as will be great to know how things are back home.
Lots of love, miss you all
