Queenstown
We left Arrowtown and took the route 6A to Queenstown through treelined windy roads with right angle corners! Very difficult driving downhill at high speed. Queenstown is very cool, with a european vibe to it, for a small place, there is lots to do. Unfortunately when we arrived the rain was coming down hard and we had to leave the centre early in order to find a spot for the night. Rain rain rain, all night long, in fact for the next 48 hours non stop, we were informed that this hasn't happened for about 20 years. All new zealanders have an extenisve knowledge of weather, its rather impressive they can explain what the norwestley does, or how the sout ewesterly gets absorded into the southen alps, yada yada, put us british to shame, we moan about the weather with no idea where the rain comes from etc, they can explain to you what wind is blowing and seem to be in touch with the elements like aragon from LOTR.
We stayed in a spot by the lake and couldn't leave the car as the rain was so heavy. Loads of people staying in cars were stuck like us. We saw one poor couple setting up their tent in the rain, poor people! It can always be worse than you think. We decided to get a night in a holiday park and then headed in to town to famous fergburger! Mark got a classic and I chose the southern swine. An unbelievable amount of food arrived! We then headed to Patagonias ice creamery for a capelina filled with banana split ice cream, nuts and fruit in a waffle basket. We have since been to Patagonias two more times and have now gorged ourselves.
