Titirangi, West Auckland
We started our journey heading north on route to Titirangi and our first work exchange. We stayed with Lucy Reade in her huge house in west Auckland. We did some minor DIY while she took the weekend off sailing. We spent the afternoons exploring Auckland and the surrounding area. We headed to a surfers hot spot called 'Piha' -a great beach you can only reach by taking a steep and bendy road through thick tall trees. A casual glance out the window and the width of the road suddenly becomes apparent, this caused us a bit of nervous energy as we weaved through, what seemed like endless sharp bends . Drivers in NZ are also the other concern, they seem to like having the open road in front of them, so whatever speed you may be doing, even 100ks, they decided to tailgate you then overtake in a huff. This became tiresome and dangerous after awhile, so whenever we get a kiwi nutter behind us we tend to pull over and let them drive like maniacs to their hearts content.
