Tim and Gaylene's, Hinds, North Canterbury
On our way back up the South Island we had a couple of help exchanges planned. Our first stop was Tim and Gaylene's in Hinds near Christchurch. It was quite remote, 10 mins walk from the sea with a back drop of mountains in the distance. The closest neighbour was about a mile away. We spent our time gardening and our evenings with the family. On Wednesday we visited their neighbours who had three people from the UK working for them. Alex, James and Fabienne had just arrived from Oz a couple of days before and it was great to catch up with them. We had a classic Nz roast that night and watched 'packed to the rafters' a weird soap that is massive in NZ. We went fishing on the beach the next evening and caught small sharks, though none large enough to eat. Their skin is rough like sand paper and they are very feisty! We completed a range of jobs at Tim and Gayleenes from driving the ride on mower to bedding down the gardens in preparation for the winter, we also got a tour round the dairy which was really mechanical and sophisticated, but tried to keep our distance...a lot of cows bums pointing at us on a revolving surface, coul've of been a very messy day
