Well well guys March huh? Weeks are going too quick.
Things are great over here. The flat is full now. All 7 rooms are filled and we now have 8 people living in the place. Makes for great yarns in the kitchen!! Theres 1 Asian, 1Indian, 1 Canadian, 1 Aussie, 1 German and 3 Kiwis. And thats just upstairs. there are about 6 others downstairs who regularily come upstairs for a beer or just to chill out.
Well I decided to give something else a go while I'm over here and to step out of the travel industry briefly. Last day being this Friday. I guess the Australian travel industry wasn't really my thing. They definitely do things alot different over here. I was only temping as well, week to week so wasn't tied to a contract. I wasn't enjoying it as had a few confrontations with a few agents over tax issues etc. Agents here rely heavily on consolidators (Ticketing offices) and so tend to focus more on selling than the ticketing aspect, which is fare enough and that is why they pay us to do their ticketing. But it also means they don't fully understand what happens with the taxes so can't understand why there are sometimes alot more taxes and fare upgrades than they expect. Took me awhile to come to terms with but ended up having laughs about it afterwards but still stressful trying to difuse every situation.
The day I handed in my resignation there I was offered another job (The job market over here is insane). It is working at the local supermarket. Yes I hear what your thinking!!! I also feel like I'm taking 500 steps back in the career progression process but wait for it....I got a job as Department Manager. They are sending me on a management course and fast tracking me to start straight away, even though I'll only be there a short time. Its just that they need someone now!! and someone who is also willing to use initiative. Surprisingly the pay is alot more and can get more hours so looks like I'll be working my arse off but hopefully by the time we'll be heading further overseas my bank account will be healthy and I'll have some managerial experience. All a bonus!!
Both me and Jamie have signed up to do USA Summer Camps this year on our way to the UK. We are heading to Camp Friendship in West Virginia, where Jamie went last year. She got a job back there easy as. I applied as well and managed to get a call today from the Camp Director. I've been offered a job as Sports Program Director. Who can imagine anything better than waking up every morning knowing I'm going to be organising and playing sport all day. Its pretty rare to go straight into a director position so I'm stoked about that and once again a managerial position like that will be fantastic experience and will go well on my CV.
So things have been going really well. Went to a bad taste party on the weekend. You can imagine the photos!! And UNCE you'll be proud that I've since spread the word to as many foreigners at that party as I could. It was at a shared accommodation place a bit like ours just down the road. There were 22 peiople living at the place so was a little bigger than ours. But well over two hundred people there so was just a mix of too much booze and too many guys dressed as girls (Height of bad taste)
Time for me to go. Peace out!
