Gday all. Things are all going well here in the heat. I wake up in the morning to a beautiful sunny day and by dinner time it is torrential muggy rain again. I'm getting use to the system by now as that has been the way ever since we got here.
Managed to secure myself a job. It's with Concorde who are owned by Stella Travel. They are a consolidator (ticketing) agent who have queues of agents sending bookings through to be reissued or ticketed. I am the Sabre "expert' in the office as most are trained on either Galileo or Amadeus. Few different back office programs to get use to that seem to be pretty arcaic but are easy enough.
Managed also to find a flat after alot of hunting. Its located in West End ( a pretty funky, multi cultural suburb with every type of restaurant with street side seating and pubs and clubs near by. Love the place and is only a 25 minute walk to work each day. Have to join the hordes of people that commute to work on foot. The flat is a share house so we all have separate leases for our own bedrooms and just share the ktichen lounge and bathroom. All bedrooms have own fridges, cutlery and mandatory fan. No A/C though so every night is a struggle getting to sleep! All rent, power, gas and water expenses are included in the $100.00 a week each that we pay. So not a bad way to do it.
Wednesday was the day we finished at the backpackers and managed to balls up our accommodation for the night. We had found the flat but couldn't move in until Thurs and we both started work on Wed. So we checked out of the backpackers, left our gear with them and trundled off to work knowing that we couldn't check back in until after work because they would know then if they had space available. By the time we got back to the backpackers that night after both having a pretty average first day at work we were told that they were full. Not a problem I thought as there were at least ten other backpackers in the area. Little did I know that all of them were fully booked, the same with all of the hotels and motels that I rang. So at 9:30 at night me and Jamie had no where to sleep, and knowing that we still had work in the morning at 9am, both shattered we rang one dirty little backpackers that we tried to steer clear of. Lucky for us they had two dorm beds available and we caught a taxi straight round. All part of the adventure though haha!! Not quite Jamies point of view though!!
Weekend now and we've finally found the public swimming pool so will be spending the arvo down there and checking out the cool cultural sights around this place. Heaps to do on South Bank. Also have a cell phone now. 0061 4 5030 0363 should work if anyone needs it.
Back out into the heat I go. Will keep updated shortly
