Rocking the Casbah
Gday guys. About time I updated you on the goings on of the first week of the trip. Got to Brisy alright! Torrential rain the day we got here and had to walk about a km from train station to back packers in it. You can imagine the outcome. Hooked straight into getting bank accounts set up and getting cell phones and all the other mandatory stuff. Had a few interviews. Some went well, others not. Everyone takes their sweet time getting back to you over here. You leave a message and wait a couple of days before calling them back to try again.
In between times have been chilling out at the pool/pub. Happy hour is always a good time!! Managed to meet up with three Italian guys who claimed they were Austrian in their hearts because they live on the border with Italy and Austria and Northern Italy likes to separate themselves from the Southerners. Anyway they cooked me and Jamie dinner on Friday night. Real home made Family secret Italian pasta. Fantastic!! Well pasta turned into beers which turned into card games with more beers and all in all turned out to be an awesome, messy night.
Sunday we headed for the mighty "Gabba". Brisbane's Cricket Ground for the Aussie v India One Day match. Was raining all morning but after buying cheap and nasty $5 brollies we thought we'd be sweet!. Managed to find our seats and got in amongst the roudy aussies in the middle of this huge race row that is going on over here. I''m not really sure what was more competitive or worth watching. The slagging matches between boozed Aussies and wound up Indians or trying to keep blown up beach balls from wandering onto the field where the coppers tended to burst them. In between all this we managed to watch some cricket/grounds men putting on and pullin off pitch covers (The game ended up being abandoned as a wash out)
Finally today I managed to find a job after ringing numerous people. I'm now working at Stella Travel Service Ticketing office in the CBD. Start on wednesday just temping for three or four months. Trying to hunt down a flat seems to be the hardest thing. Not many people want couples that only want to stay for 3 or 4 months. Got a few places to have a look at tonight but will keep you posted on that one.
Have a geez at the photo albums, will try keep everything all up to date. Enjoy!!
