After a nice big breakfast and checking out, we hit the road for Vegas. We had the choice of the scenic but 11hour journey through Yosemite, or the 8hour less interesting journey around Yosemite. We chose the latter. Instead of attempting the spanish CD (advanced as it is) we instead listened to the Les Mis soundtrack, I did such a good job at acting out all the parts, that Donna felt like she had actually watched the film. I think a career of treading the boards awaits me on my return to London. The drive was, unsurprisingly, mostly desert and as the petrol gauge was getting lower and we were increasingly in the middle of nowhere, we had to pull off, even further into the desert on the hunt for petrol. We ended up in a place called California City. Built by some tycoon as the 'next L.A.' it had failed miserably. We decided it was as good a time as any for a spot of lunch so ended up having our sandwiches and redbull in the car, in the petrol station forecourt, with the doors locked. On the way back out to the main road we thought we'd see what Sally with her 6 cylinders could do. She is a beast!!
Donna appears to have picked up a new found love for renewable energy and was in awe at the Wind Turbine farm we passed. Thre were 100s of the things! As we got into Vegas it was pretty hard to concentrate on the driving and directions as you just wanted to look at all the signs and lights! When we made it to the hotel, Stratosphere, and freshened up after the long drive, we got the shuttle bus up to the other end of the strip and had a walk about. To say we had a slight Culture shock having come from Yosemite is an understatement!! We made it to the Belagio and the fountains, as well as the Venetian before it all got a bit too weird for us and we had to head back to the hotel, which we decided to walk back to. All resulting in a very good nights sleep!
