Unsurprisingly a long lie in was had today. When we did surface we went downstairs for a buffet breakfast/lunch. This was definitely a quantity over quality affair. But it gave us enough fuel to drive out to the Las Vegas sign, stopping on the way to pick up a satnav as it turns out this is much cheaper than renting a one. At the sign there was queue for having you picture under it, there was a guy helpfully offering to take pictures for people with their own cameras, I'm pretty sure he was just a random geezer trying his luck in this tipping culture they have here. Fair play to him I guess!! We then drove down to New York New York to check out some of the hotels at that end of the strip. Still all seems pretty weird to me, but nothing alcohol couldn't fix I'm sure.
Back at the hotel we planned our moves for tomorrow and booked somewhere to stay. Then we headed over to Freemont Street to meet up with my next door neighbour from Diss who was over for work/with friends. We definitely wish we'd got over to Freemont street earlier, a lot less weird and a much more relaxed sense of fun! We even got to see an Elvis impersonator at last!! After a couple of drinks with John and his friends and a catch up on the goings on of Diss, they headed up to the strip and we went to explore Freemont Street a bit more. The 'worlds largest screen' was good with Bon Jovi and Queen shows being shown on it. The Heartattack Grill was also a highlight, where you could get your meal for free if you weigh over 300lb!! We settled on dinner and a little gamble in Tony Romas. Here we were served by a large woman who weirdly we were both reminded of Kathy Najimy's character in the 90s cinematic classic Hocus Pocus. After we had eaten and $20 had been lost at the table we headed back to the hotel and went up the Tower for some great views across Vegas and the strip. I think we were both glad we had never quite gotten around to attempting the rides at the top of the tower though!
