16 hours later and Donna resurfaces to have her array of pills for breakfast. We showered and made ourselves slightly more human before heading out to investigate Salinas. After a couple of failed attempts at getting in to a winery we found one that was open for tasting, and I had my breakfast. $10 got us a generous taster of 10 different local wines. We came to the conclusion that I like a light and sweet wine, whereas Donna is more of a dark and fruity kinda gal. We washed down the wine with some cheese and set off into Salinas, which the lady at the winery had warned us could be rough in places. We had a slight panic on the way when we were driving towards what seemed to be an erupting volcano. A quick delve into the memories of my secondary school geography lessons, and I realised it couldn't be that, turns out it was a controlled fire - phew! We swung by Steinbeck's old house which is now a restaurant, but it was closed. So we ended up going for an italian instead. After that it was off to find a motel, we found one that was a good cheap price, the owner was an asian fella from Bolton - seems to be a lot of Asian motel owners about here, not sure what that's about?! Anyway, we got an early night before the drive to Yosemite tomorrow.
