Today we took a trip to one of the neighbouring islands - Manutik Island. We saw our good friend Mec who booked us on board the boat and threw in some free snorkelling equipment for us - awww, what a lovely guy. We boarded the boat, kitted up with lifejackets and headed, pretty fast, towards the island. It took about 15 minutes to reach it. It was quite a bumpy ride and we got a little wet with the splash, but it was fun.
On reaching the island we had to pay a 10 ringett entry fee - only 3 ringetts for Malaysians (a bit of favouritism I think). We walked over to where we thought it would be quietest, past the millions of Chinese, and found a little spot around the corner from the snorkelling area. It was a gorgeous sunny day. Mia stripped off down to her bikini and proceeded to dance around the beach whilst listening to her Mp3 whilst I took a wander in search of weird wildlife and some good photos. I found what I thought was a dead snake but apparently it was just an eel. We had been on the island for about an hour when Mia noticed a dark cloud coming towards us. We thought it would probably pass overhead and so continued enjoying the sunshine.
We were both sunbathing with our Mp3s on when suddenly there was a huge gust of wind. We both lept up, Mia grabbed the stuff and I reached for the camera - never wanting to miss a good photo opportunity - and right in front of us, in the sea, was a huge typhoon heading straight for us!!!!! Mia screamed but I continued filming. The wind got stronger and stronger until it actually got quite scary so I stopped the camera and ran over to Mia who was still screaming and frantically trying to stop our stuff from blowing away. We grabbed everything and ran into the trees where there was a shelter. By this time the heavens had opened and it was torrential rain. The wind had died down, so being the nutters that we are, we ran back onto the beach and started dancing in the rain. It was pretty fun. All of the Chinese were huddled under umbrellas amongst the trees, probably thinking to themselves "crazy English people!". We got totally soaked, makeup running down our faces but luckily we had brought with us a change of clothes and some towels. The rain didn't stop for a good 30-40 minutes so we decided to get the boat back to the mainland. It was certainly an experience. We've got some excellent videos that we've posted up - very funny!
Back on dry land we met up with Mec again and told him of our fun. I think he felt a little guilty so he gave us a small discount off our next trip - white water rafting - which we'll be doing on Thursday. Its been a pretty exciting day. Hopefully we'll have more adventures to report tomorrow as we head off in search of monkeys...
