Day 6, Highbury to Katanning, 93km.
After an amazing nights sleep in the luxury of my air-conditioned motel room I found it hard to pull my self out of bed. Reluctantly I got up and double bagged a cup a soup, which turned into a viscous glupe. After finishing the glupe I packed my bike, my bags were pre-packed something I can't do if
I camp. I jumped back on my bike and was off. My legs felt much better than the previous day and I was ready for a good day. The morning sun and breeze felt hotter than the previous days but soon enough a light cloud cover dampened its intensity. I quickly
found a really nice rhythm and was eating up the kilometres. I wasn't pushing myself it was a nice natural rhythm. I have started to notice that the landscape is slowly changing, it's looking greener and there are signs of water in the rivers unlike the arid northern parts I have cycled through.
I was busting out some 90's classics today, I sang, this is the rhythm of the night, as if it was being exorcised out of my body. I don't even have it on my I-pod but now wish I did. I really want to know how and and why your sub conscious has the ability to pluck the most obscure songs out of depths of your memory.
Anyway, I soon made it into Katanning, another small agricultural town which is dying a slow death. A lot of the towns I have cycled through look really sorry for themselves, abandoned building, empty shops and just a general air of emptiness fill the towns. The weather is going to starting cooling now so I am preparing for a big day tomorrow. I want to reach Mount Baker which is 120km, so I'm currently trying to eat my body weight in food.
