Hey guys, this is just a quick round up of my time in Perth. I had already written one but I forgot to get it off my laptop before I gave it to My friend to take home.
On meeting a few locals you get the feeling that In Australia Perth is viewed as the slightly weird and uncultured guest at a party that unfortunately you might be related to, ironically I think that is how Australia is generally viewed.
Perth, given the time is not what people make it out to be. It is an amazing city with some absolute gems, it just takes time to find them as the city sprawls for miles.
My top 5 places in Perth:
Tiger tiger cafe- wicked food and great location.
The Bakery- an amazing small music venue and club (the first time i got taken here I thought we were going for some booze munch, was not diss appointed when I didn't get fed!
The moon: again wicked food and chilled bar, open till 4...great! Can be pricey.
Lancelin- North of Perth, amazing place to go for a weekend, with great beach and surf. The local YHA is cooshti, more like a three star hotel.
Swan River- Doesn't matter where you view it from, whether driving round it, walking or viewing it from kings park it bloody good and offers amazing views of the city.
Got to mention all the beer gardens which popped up during the various festivals in Perth over the summer, they offer some great places to drink away in the evening as the sun sets on Perth and relatively cheap pints. Also disproving that Perth has nothing to do.
Sorry, I don't know how this has turned into a guide book.
One of the things you first notice about Perth is the wealth. When cycling north over Christmas to Lancelin every other car had a boat attached to the back of it, not a tin can but a bloody 16 foot, shiny white yacht. Currently experiencing a massive resource
boom, Western Australia, taken by itself would be the 15 largest economy in the world which explains why Perth is the 13 most expensive city in the world to live in!!!
Talking to people in the hostels you hear horror and rag-to-riches stories of people who have ventured into the mines like its the American gold rush of the 1800's, it does give WA a distinctive cowboy feel, everyone is out here to make it all you have to do is work hard and you can be the one driving along with a 16ft boat attached to your big f***-off 4x4.
Anyway, Perth is an amazing city, I have had an amazing 4 months here,
I feel sad to be leaving after I have settled in and met so many nice people but now it's time to get on with the second leg of my trip the big ride.
