The adventures of Lucy...
Hey again! take note of the great photo i took whilst in the plane!!
Well i am trying to update this every week! So here is what i got up to in my first week in FLORIPA!!!....
The plane flight was great and i took lots of photos of the amazing views of the island, and also of clouds!! We were met at the airport by Gabi who is the representative of Experimento; the organisation that we are working with. We then took a mini bus through the city and we were dropped off with our familys.. i was so ridicolously excited! Spent the weekend meeting the family, going to the beach and having bbqs- one day i ate rice with octopus- delicious!! Went to a fab club on sat night in place called Lagoa.. i can see myself getting quite familiar with that area!!Also felt a bit embarrassed on the beach as i got SO many looks- it was pretty clear to see that i was ENGLISH!!!! On monday we went on a great day long boat trip; we had lunch on a remote island, saw dolphins really close, and went for a swim- had to jump in the sea from the boat- was a long way down!! Woke up on Tuesday very very sunburnt- factor 30 applied all day is obviously not enough!! i went to meet the others at the mall, and collapsed during lunch! I was taken to the medical room and was made to eat sodium! In the evening, i went to the opening ceremony of a restaurant. Was great atmosphere and got chatting to some people who could speak English- one of the guys was quite drunk and ended up coming out with some hilarious comments and gave me his business card- mm!!Was also great sax player playing great music. On thurs, went to good beach with music coming from speakers and a great atmosphere! On Friday, we went for our orientation with Aflove, the first organisation that we are working with for a week. We went to see the children, and it was amazing how excited they were to see us. They organised a show of dance/music/football and caiporera- was all so good to see! Was also great to see how much of a difference the shcool was making for the children, most of whom live in the nearby favelas with parents who are prostitutes or drug dealers. Also had a great lunch there with them- 100 times better than English school dinners- Mr Oliver- take note!! On saturday, went for a short bike ride with my friend Sun, who lives down the road- very lucky that we live so close. Went shopping and then in the evening went to the beach house that belongs to George, who is Sun's 'sister's' boyfriend- you following?!! finally got there at 2 in the morning and decided to check out the night life! it was amazing- so buzzing at 4 in the morning! Had a good laugh trying to shake of some brazilian men who attached themselves to myself and Sun! Woke up very early on Sunday; had a shower with some ants- nice! and took some photos of 2 gekos who decided to sleep in our room! We then went to the beach for the day and i tried SURFING!!!!!! I LOVE IT! it was soooooo fab! can't wait to try it again!Went back to pick our stuff up from the house and met a boy who practically lives there- he has attached himself to George's mum as he does not like living at home- i dread to think what the conditions are like. The drive back was a bit heary- the roads are not in quite the same condition as roads in the UK! Went through some great open areas too with men walking cows on the roads etc; the place has only had electricity for 30 years! Right thats enough for this week! Write soon!
