Today is my first day of really being ON MY OWN! having finished the tour on Sunday (can't believe how quickly its gone) spent Monday in Bangkok (shopping..) then got a9 hour overnight bus down to Ko Phamnang - a tiny island near Ranong near Burma - hardly anyone there it is one of the few úntouched islands in Thailand....slept in Bamboo huts (I saw a snake and huge spiders) -which was pretty scary but had surprisingly good nights sleep. Bus journey was bot great overnight - we arrived at a deserted and isolated ranong nus station at 5am - thankfully the locals market opened about 6 so we stayed around there with the locals for a couple of hours (cup of coffee was 3b - about 0p!) before heading to the pier to get the boat to our island. Only a handful of inhabitants on the island- generator elecitrcity which went out at 11 so was very grateful for my torch! The beach was AMAZING - never seen anything like it - island has no cars - you get everywhere by motorbike via the tiny strip of ''road'' - was staying with 2 of my friends from the Intrepid tour - they stayed on another night but I left today and travelled down to Krabi - arrrived about 6 this evening and found a really cheap hostel 120b including unlimited internet - had street food which is meat to be really good around here but now Im scared it may make me ill! Have 12 bites from the last island which I'm not happy about but there''s a boots in Krabi town so my first stop was to get some more strong Deet. Krabi town is pretty small but lots of backpackers and holidaymakers around as its a stop off point before the likes of Ko Phi Phi etc etc....postive is that its such good value for money (the islands are pretty pricey) so I might end up staying here abit and doing day trips over to the islands to explore. Got some washing done as soon as I got here - Its was reaching desperate measures - in river water as the stuff was never clean and always smelt really funny so Im hoping this should be better.....watch this space! Met a couple from Belgium on my bus journey down who were quite friendly anda nice lady from europe somewhere travelled from Phamnang to Ranong with me. Really strange being back in Thailand after Cambodia- completely different - much more developed and hectic - westernised - gonig into a 7 eleven was a big event for the whole group - supermarkets are a rare thing in the likes of Laos and Cambodia! Not sure where Im going to head to around the islands - looking forward to Oz now - I want to brush my teeth under running water and drink from the tap! Hope everyones well - heard my first christmas song today - hope everyones starting to get festive! (I can see all your horror stricken faces as i write!) much love xxx
