Madrid is so hot... Making it hard to do much walking without wanting to sit in the shade every 5 minutes. We did our best though, we had a walk around to see the sights, such as the royal palace and it's gardens which were so grand and beautiful. We wandered through some plazas on the way to the huge park on the other side of the city. On the way we had some lunch and I dragged minty into a coffee shop so I could have some Spanish hot chocolate, which when I had it a few years ago was like chocolate custard and never forgot it.. But in this place it was just your standard HC :( I was highly disappointed but had to hide it cause it cost 3 euros... So it's a sensitive subject at the moment.
After this traumatic event we went for our own siesta at the park, I slept on our map for over an hour and minty played monopoly, we could only handle the sun for about 15 minutes, though I'm sure we will crave it when we are home.
We came back to the hostel to find our roomie in bed, he is late 50s and keeps speaking to us in Spanish though it's obvious we don't understand. He wears a hat like Grandads so we assume he's a nice person. He even went to bed later than us last night so he's probably a party animal - although upon reflection he does wear Crocs so maybe not..
We left speedily so as not to disturb him and went up to the terrace to read which was relaxing. We came back down to do some washing, and somehow got ourselves invited out to dinner with him. We still are not quite sure how we managed it but we knew we were meeting him at ten... Bewildered and confused as to how this had happened we went and sat downstairs to avoid any more conversation/sign language. We met him later with a Brazilian man called Roberto and off we all went for the most awkward hour ever. After about 5 minutes we realised that he was absolutely around the bend. At one point he circled some girls while filming them... Roberto served as a rough translator and he had obviously been dragged into this somehow too. We just shared awkward glances and the word 'loco'. We went for food and just waited for it to end. Luckily he told us not to wait for him and we jumped at the chance. As I type this, all three of us are in the darkened room and minty and him are speaking Spanish, not easy without the hand movements. Oh god, he just turned on the lights to show us his scalectrix (spelling? The little cars on tracks) this could not get much weirder! His name is something like chosi... In case I get stolen... I am joking obviously, so do not panic - he seems to like minty the best so he will probably take him :) night everyone!

G&D What on earth are you up to? A hat like mine and loco.... There cannot be two of us. If he mentions a Devil's Fiddle or model ships move on smartly. Yes, Royal Palace is quite somethng. You can imagine the Square full of soldiers and horses through the ages. Yr poor feet are taking a pounding. Just thought that this chappie with a hat could be Pancho looking for Don Quixote ? Ask him ..... Wish you well, LOL, G and D
G&D (Again) We've just caught up with yr photos of Barcelona and Madrid. What an excellent record ! Much enjoyed them. Amazing you can just send such quality. Now remembered Don Q's oppo was Sancho Panza (I think). Have a good day! :) LOL,G&D
Sergeant Williams Luce - I wouldn't worry too much about Mr Loco; WW3 has just started in back in the UK!
Lucy Thanks sgt williams. Dont go to work! Stay at home. X
Constable & Mrs Holt Do not fuss about Sgt Williams and his WW3. All is under control. For example Grandad is now a Spec. Const.as a result of which I now wear my Naval Sword at all times, except in bed, and even then it is ready for "instant action". In addition the Pith Helmet (with which you will be familiar) is worn to provide dignity and gravitas, much to the surprise of the Brampton residents, but they are getting used to it. Our main worry is that the Brampton Primary School who could well get ideas above their station and storm the Orchard lane Tomato Horticultural Station. Our assets and research info from 4 (four) thriving plants must not be lost to the Nation. Grandma Dawn is on Standby too.She can produce her "HOW DARE YOU" look in 2 1/2 seconds which is quicker than a taser. So never fear. The UK is in good hands... and with luck. Bedford will still be standing for your return. If not complete, at least recognisable. Have a pleasant journey demain with hopefully no hic-cups. Hasta la vista ! LOL, GJH and DMH (Spec. Const.)

You have 163 minutes of talk time left. Each text in Italy cost you 8.5p. Let me know what you want to do about the University thing because I don't understand your mum's explanation.
