¡Hola!
San Sebastian is full of old people and dogs - so it has been nice to be reminded of 5 Usher Close...
We arrived safely last night and our hostel is pretty nice, we are sharing with another couple in quite a big room so it's nice to have a bit more space! We had a small explore once we got here and went out for dinner to a place recommended by one of the hostel owners. The place isn't much to look at, with napkins on the floor and not exactly luxurious surroundings, but we trusted him and went for the 'Carolina' as he suggested. It was the biggest sandwich ever, a sub with what seemed like an entire fried chicken, lettuce and mayo - for just €4! Needless to say, Minty loved it and even went back today. I felt like I had fullfiled my monthly ingestion of chicken allowance, so had other options today but back to that later! We had an ice cream for dessert and then came back and relaxed.
Today we were slightly disappointed as it was overcast, though we had been warned of this! So we went to the aquarium which was really interesting. There were huge sharks and Minty particularly liked the turtles. They had a big hand made boat collection so we took lots of pictures for Grandad, including their names. I'll show you next week!
For lunch I got another hot chocolate and a jam tart, ohhh it was yummy! This is when Minty went back for another Carolina. I'm starting to hope he does mean the sandwich rather than the waitress...
We then explored some more, there are nice shops here which have kept me occupied.. On our budget of 43 a day I can consider for memorabilia only postcards (if they're on offer) and I suppose pebbles from the beach which I could colour.
After lunch we went to see a big neo gothic church... It was as boring as it sounds but we had a fun time watching the Christians on Tour playing strange games to pass the time. We even filmed one as they looked so odd. I don't know if you can tell but there's not loads to do here...
We had a walk along the beach before dinner, where we ate 'pinchos' - the San Sebastian version of tapas, where you just pick stuff off the counter like a buffet and they're usually meats and fish on top of some french bread. It was quite good but we didn't feel too satisfied so Minty is currently planning on going to get a takeaway Carolina (should I be worried?). We also tried the speciality Cidre - which is a non carbonated cider which tastes more like a sweet (disgusting) wine. I had sangria as I needed something to wash it down.. :)
Tomorrow we will pray for sunshine and hopefully spend time at the beach. :)

Supt. and Mrs Holt Never been to San S. and after yr debrief I don't think I'll bother. The Carolina sounds great for Xmas Day but not for me in August. I think the cidre could be given a miss too. I am most impressed with you writing i Hola ! in the true Spanish style. Well done. When you have 3 hrs (min) to spare I'll recount the time we caught a shark in a 27' whaler. At sea, not in an aquarium..... But I digress. The Orchard Lane Brigade were in fine fettle tonight. Our parade with Guard and Band in the Black Bull carpark nipped any potential trouble in the bud. You would have been proud...... By the time I'd got home I found I'd been advanced another rank. Will be Chief Const. by the time you get back to Blighty. Hope the sun appears and all continues to go well. You deserve it. Do you sing "I love to go a wandering" as you march along? I do. Ask SNJ. Sometimes she made me walk ahead. As the saying goes "And so to bed" LOL, G and D
Mummy PS I did not make Grandad walk a head when he sang in the steet I very much hung back!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxx
