Despite seeing four clouds today it is still so hot, we can hardly take the heat. As it is our last day here though we still went out and even tried the tube.
We have come to realise that there is no point getting up early here as the city does not start moving until about 6pm, it seems so quiet for a capital city but that's probably because we are in bed when they start to party!
After a late get up we got the tube to Estadio Santiago Bernabéu - the Real Madrid Stadium. I was all ready to go and be a football maniac but we got to the ticket office and they didn't do student tickets so at €16 each we thought it'd be best for me to wait outside. He says it was a 'majestic stadium' - and to all his fans I did offer to let him write this bit but he is not as dedicated as me to you, the reader.
It wasnt awful for me though, as I found the real spanish hot chocolate I have been craving, so although its the hottest place yet, I warmed myself up further. It was so worth it.
After being reunited we got the tube back to the centre and had a wander around, we got highly irritated by a particular beggar who just smacked a tin of empty Green Giant on the floor really loudly, sat in a nice deck chair surrounded by glittery handbags, it ruined our experience sitting and looking at the Puerta de Alcalá, or as our Busabout tour guide called it the other day- the Arc de Triomphe. We had assumed that this was just a pet name for it, but nay, after googling it we have found that she's possibly the worst tour guide in the entire world and needs to go back to school. Anyway the beggar was a man dressed up as a woman and after about 5 minutes of him banging the floor like a baby we decided to leave before we went and stole his flowery hat.
We had planned to just walk through the huge and stunning park Parque del Buen Retiro on our way home but got to the lake where we found little rowing boats - of course my happy face meant minty knew he'd have to get us one. It was €4 for 45 minutes which we thought was pretty good. I enjoyed it immensely , showing off my skills :p Minty also wasn't bad, and when he worked out how to spin the boat he got quite over excited and we just span for about 2 minutes. I felt quite sick but didn't have the heart to tell him because he was so impressed with himself!
On the way home we stopped at a little store which sold homemade lemonade for a euro, ohhh it was lovely! But not a patch on grandmas - and while on the subject I'd like to put an order in for next week when I visit!! It's been pretty tough for me without any form of squash here obviously :(
We are off out for dinner shortly, to a place highly recommended as a non-classy casual place with good sangria and tapas, so we are interested! Apparently it is a good place to make friends - so we will keep our eyes down....
:)
