'Un'luckily for us the centre of the trail was closed due to a landslide today, so we decided to get the train to the town after the landslide and walk to the remaining 2 towns - rather than through all 5. We managed the first 4k walk between Cornelia and Vernazza, which took us just over an hour and was the toughest walk we have ever done - not quite Barton Hills! It was very steep, hot, and sweaty with some large drops playing on our minds. It was quite enjoyable and had some amazing views, but the heat really did make it tough. We should have known when the walk kicked off with about 600 steps! Once we got to Vernazza we decided, including the sporty American, that there was no way we were going to be doing the even tougher walk to Monterosso, so we got the train.. Only after our packed lunch and some ice cream, solely for purposes regarding energy obviously. It mystifies me that some people manage to walk all 5 in one day!
The three of us went to the very busy beach in this town, the water is completely clear and was so refreshing. We lay there for a few hours soaking up the sunshine and relaxing. After the sun had begun to set we decided to go for some bruschetta as a goodbye meal as Hannah was leaving for Munich. We had a lovely meal looking out on a beach and gave her a big hug goodbye. We got the train back to our town and back to bed because we were exhausted! :)
