It is just so beautiful here, even the pictures don't do it justice. I am already dreading having to leave! We are here for four nights. We arrived after going via Pisa, it was pretty cool to see it and it's all really well looked after. But an hour there was enough, even though for about 20 mins of it the entire bus group was in mcdonalds.. Says a lot about us as travellers! To be fair we hadn't eaten yet and there wasn't much choice (not that we looked beforehand) and us 2 were with our American so she would probably have been very upset if we hadn't. The journey all day was a bit awkward, we were lost for about an hour before Pisa.. And the bus driver and the tour guide fell out so both were in terrible moods. We had had really nice people before so it was quite a contrast!
To follow up this disastrous journey we had a disastrous arrival. We had to get a train which goes through all 5 towns, ours was the first stop - what we hadn't realised was that as we were in the 3rd carriage we would not fit in the station. So us and a few other people from busabout thought we had stopped in a tunnel just like normal, but no, as it drove off again we saw a flash of our station and the rest of the busabout people happy as larry on the platform. We were all pretty upset and so after about 40 mins and €2.50 later we got to our town - Riomaggiore. The nicest lady in the world took us in to our little bedsit thing, she lives upstairs and is Italian and doesn't speak English, so I suppose she could have called us sweaty idiots ( which I am not denying was our state when she found us ) but nonetheless she definitely sounded very nice. She pulled out a little chair and made me sit down while she made the bed, god I felt bad, shes pretty old! (mum isn't old enough to benefit from this compassion yet)
We then went down to the port which is just beautiful. We had some amazing bruscetta, which was cream cheese, pesto and pine nuts. This region is known for it's pesto, so Alexa would be in her element, seafood and wine. I will put the picture up of this meal cause it was just amazing, especially with our view across the water.
We then went and sat on the rocks by the water for a couple of hours. It was idyllic. We watched the locals bring in their boats and just tie them anywhere, and jump around on the rocks barefoot as if it was easy, I was still struggling with the steps. After minty drank the last bit of my iced tea and then shook it over the water so we could carry it in my bag, a huge wasp came out, we are talking over an inch long and pretty fat, so feeling pretty spooked at the potential disaster that could have just happened to mintys throat we decided to go back to the room and relax. It had been a long day with little sleep so after reading our books we went to bed early as we knew we had such a big day ahead! :)
If this is the first blog you're reading I have also put up some from the other days x
