Do you even want to know? We have had the most disastrous day. As I am writing this, at 10pm, I am on the bus to Nice which should have arrived at 5.30. Today's bus was meant to pick up at La Spezia train station, because Cinque Terre isn't really accessible by bus, at 12.15. We got up early-ish and got the train there an hour early just to be sure. Once the bus got there we were informed that there was only 14 places on this bus, and that they had let on the 'chosen ones' who were actually waiting in the wrong place which just so happened to reach them before us. So much for following the rules! The other bus driver had food poisoning so we had to wait for a different one to drive from Venice, to Florence, to get us and take us to Nice. What a nice man, he's south African and I didn't realise how strong their accent is! So the remaining 24 of us waited in the sun with lots of beer, we were told to wait till 2 .. Then 3 ... Then 5 when they eventually turned up. To be honest we had a good day speaking to our fellow bus people. We even have wrangled a free dinner out of it. Although as I type I can see it's not worth it, we are leaving Nice in 10 hours and it looks so beautiful!
After a couple of games of cards, which us two in turn lost, which meant we had to wear a napkin hat. Not representing the Brits too well I'm afraid! This was with our pretty good free pasta and wine, but we all were so tired we went to bed -pretty early and not making enough use of the freebies! We were lucky enough to get a bunk in a side room, but paying the 8 bed rate, though I'm sure Minty would have been happy to bunk with his new friend Tolsa. They already seem to love each other, probably cause they're both so tall. Luckily for me Tolsa had a girlfriend so I too didn't need to worry about minty leaving me for him... / I suppose it meant I could talk to someone while they were bonding over the kids toys in Mcdonalds etc.
Anyway, a speeedy visit to Nice but at least it is a good excuse to come back at some point.
Back in time... The day before in Cinque Terre was a relaxing day in contrast, we chilled out and minty had some Mussels!!! They were stuffed with Pesto and Anchovies too. Apparently they were really really good.
Up early now for our journey to Barcelona :) aaand now we are here! It is nearly 8 and after a 10 hour bus journey then tube ride we are in private bunk beds in a place that seems pretty good! Finally we are into our free breakfast leg of the trip. Will update tomorrow!

G&D What an absolute nightmare of a journey. And you can still make humorous comments! 10/10 for that. Glad you have decent accom. tonight. Free Breker's too. Sheer luxury. Barcelona v big town to see in 2 days. Plan to go back in future with some native lingo. BTW we do not need any fake castanets for decoration and neither does SNJ !! Look forward to your blogs. Be safe and LOL, G and D
Mr Williams For your information, I know two South Africans and the reason for the really really strong accents is because they're they South Africans that descend from the Dutch and speak Afrikaan - i.e. English is their second language. Whereas the softer sounded South Africans descend from the British so speak English as their first language. Interesting eh? Lesson over.
