Lucy's Big Adventure!
Hello again!
Darwin is fabulous, I love it, I cant get enough of it! Every day is averagely 35◦C and its just great! The humidity is bearable at the moment, but apparently just gets worse! Thankfully both my office & hostel room have air conditioning!
My PA job is going well, I don't really do much to be honest, but not because I'm not trying and am asking all day for more work to do! My contract finishes next week so hope to have something else lined up to start as soon as this has finished. I'm also waitressing in the evenings and odd weekend for weddings and functions when I'm needed to, which I also love, its good money & hardly what I'd call hard work - In particular, last week, I waitressed just serving drinks and nibbles in Parliament House here. A huge beautiful building set by the wharf side with massive high ceilings, marble floors & a lovely big open garden with a fountain which is all lit up by night.
This function in particular, I didn't check to find out who or what it was in aid of. I'd spent the past hour behind a tall screen, preparing drinks for the other waitresses to take outside so wasn't really aware of what was going on, until someone mentioned Cricket Team & grabbed the camera.. Well my ears soon pricked up at that & I asked what was happening....
Turns out, it was only half the Aussie Cricket Team, the coaches, and the younger teams in training and the same for the Bangladesh team who they were playing against that weekend!! I soon ditched the drink prep station, grabbed a tray of beers and I was in off! Despite not having a CLUE who any of them were, what they did or who they played for, I had a wonderful 2 hours bringing them all beer and food and exchanging cheeky small talk with them! The only one I vaguely recognised was Andrew Symonds, but that was only because he stuck out like a sore thumb and so I had to ask someone his name!
To say I am experiencing the best of it all is an understatement! I am just having the time of my life. My hostel is brilliant, its noisy & jam packed full of travellers & I love it! So much has changed from my very first night where I didn't think I'd make it through the night & wondered who I was kidding that I could do this on my own & that I'd never make friends.. To now having so many friends & so much more confidence, both of which I'm gaining by the day, and I haven't felt this happy in a long while. Although I'm on my own, you're never really on your own, everyone looks out for each other, that's what good about having a big hostel, everyone seems to know everyone! My roommates are 3 wonderful girls who met in Melbourne, and have known each other a while - One Irish, one Scottish, one German and ME, so we're quite a mix! We're having a whale of a time particularly at weekends where you can find us lounging by the pool topping up our tans and challenging the boys to a few games of volleyball in the pool (and winning usually by using our feminine charms!!) and then out at night, dancing the nights away in the bars & clubs. Its like a big holiday town, everyones just brilliant & its something I will never forget. Certainly not the Aussie experience I was expecting, but I'm learning to expect the unexpected out here!
Apologies to those of you who I have told all this to already, must sound like a broken record by now?! I should have written a joint one a while ago but been having so much fun! Am still keeping in contact with Gavin, he's working and has met some great people at his campsite and at work.
Well, I'm sure there were other things to update you all on, but I cant actually remember them now! I've taken plenty of photos, however, I wont be putting them on the website because its mainly just photos of my and my girly friends all dressed up and posing in front of the camera! So not exactly scenic or anything like that!
Hope everyone is well.. Hows the rain back in good old England?!!
Lots of love
A very happy smiley Lucy
