Lucy's Big Adventure!
Hi All.
Sorry it's been a while since our last update, not been up to much, just planning the next part of our adventure, which I shall tell you about in a sec.
Last week got together with my Auntie, her fiance, my 5 year old gorgeous cousin, My Uncle & Nan who all live out here, except for Nan who is just visiting but has now bought a place here in Sydney. We had a lovely dinner together & great catch up over a couple of bottles of red wine & reminisced about old times which was wonderful. We've been on a cruise around Sydney Harbour which Nan bought for us as a welcome gift, it was a 45 minute boat trip around the harbour, seeing fantastic views of the Sydney Skyline whilst enjoying a nice cold beer!
Went to Taronga Zoo yesterday, which is lovely, had our photo taken with a Sea lion called Mav, who was adorable.. Photo to follow as with all the other photos! Have ordered wireless broadband so we can have access on our laptop with us where ever we go, but having problems getting it delivered to me, seems no matter what country you're in, its just so hard to just get a parcel re-directed to you! Anyway, fingers crossed, it will be by next week & I can upload the photos for you.
Well, we have once again changed our minds as to what we're doing after Sydney. However, we have finally arranged something which we are VERY excited about.
We have joined an organisation called WWOOF, which is Willing Workers On Organic Farms. Basically, you get a book with a list of all the "hosts" who participate in the WWOOF. Mainly farms, but also just people wanting help around the home and garden, you chose a host, arrange with them when you're coming & in return for 4 to 6 hours of work per day, they give you all meals & accommodation. Work is varied, can be general farm work, building work, fencing etc, animal care, or just household duties. In your spare time which is usually afternoons and weekends you can come and go as you please & explore the surrounding areas. Your minimum stay per host is 2 nights, so we are planning to just go with the flow & see what happens.
Our first stop off is on Monday 24th March, which is Easter Monday with the Williams family: Here is their entry in the book:
Adelaide Hill Horse Stud, set on 190 beautiful acres with an 1850's historic homestead. Farm breeds eventing horses and also runs beef breeding cows & sheep. We also have alpacas, ducks & chickens. Local country pub is 2kms, beach & whale watching is 25 kms. Work is varied with the season and can include caring for and feeding the animals. Maintenance of large vegetable garden, fencing, whatever needs to be done at the time. Accommodation in the family home with all meals provided.
So we arrive in Adelaide on Monday 24th, apparently a lot of the work at the moment is working with new born calves & lambs & will be marking them out and tagging them which I cant WAIT to do! Gonna be really messy, really hard work but so much fun! Once we're there, we'll decide how long we want to be there for, then after that, we're going to take the long road trip to Perth, then find a host there.
Now you're wondering how we're going to get there yes? Well, that's what we've been doing this weekend:...... This is our new home!!

Ain't she pretty?!!! We bought her on Saturday and pick her up next weekend! She has a double bed in the back, a sink, a fridge, a 2 hob gas stove, lots of storage & gear and whatever else we need for our big trip! We are so excited, we want to get on the road now!
Parents/Grandparents - I'm sure you're all freaking out right now, but don't worry we'll be fine! We have mobiles, wireless Internet access, lots of maps, a spare petrol can, stocks of food and water, roadside breakdown cover, insurance, etc etc and will be sure to report to every check in point possible along the way so everyone knows our progress. No we won't pick up any hitchhikers, no we won't stop off and talk to strangers, no we won't leave one of us in the vehicle whilst the other goes off in search for assistance if anything goes wrong, no we won't stop off at any places without reporting to someone where we are as soon as we can!
Hope you're all well, will keep in better contact when we've started moving around and got the broadband going.
Lots of love
Lucy & Gavin
