Met with Haydn and 3 of the people we had met the night before at 10 and headed to the beach! The sun was out, which is lucky as there's not a lot to do at Rainbow apart from hit the beach! Only took a couple of mins to get there, it's a lovely beach and wasn't very busy! Sunbathed, read my book, had a swim... generally chilled out :-) Missing my iPod though! At about half 12 we headed back, stopping off at a little cafe for lunch (chicken pasta, yum yum!!) Got back to the hostel and had time to kill till 2. Had a shower and felt a little bit low again, think its just because I have had such a mad week, loosing stuff and meeting people then leaving them really quickly. At 2 I headed to the bar for the Fraser Island briefing, where I slept through the safety video! The sofa I was on was too comfy! Woke up at the end though and kept the fact I was asleep quiet! Non of the people we had met the night before were on our trip but Haydn was. The group seemed really quiet, even the guy doing our briefing said it! I was put with a girl from Birmingham that was in my room and 4 Canadian guys that had been in my room in Noosa. Weren't too sure about them! Don't like being stereotypical, but have met a lot of annoying Canadians! They were very loud and seemed to be right out of Dude Where's my Car! The trip did change my opinion of Candians for the better though :-) We had some paper work to fill in and went through our food boxes, there was loads there which was good! The girl from Birmingham is 29, even louder than the Cnadians put together and was quite hard to talk to, so again I was feeling nervous about the trip! There were about 20 of us in the group, hoped I would find a girl to click with! At first, it didn't seem like the easiest group to click with, but there were more people turning up in the evening that would be coming with us. I never did properly click with anyone which was a shame, first time I haven't had someone that I have stuck with and felt a bit weird at times. But by the end everyone got on really well and it was pretty chilled out and good fun, we had some big characters which made it entertaining! Had to go to reception and sort out some paperwork and I heard a laugh from somewhere behind me and knew straight away who it was!!! Harriet and Carrie were there! Had always hoped we could meet up in Oz as I was travelling North and them South, but hadn't heard much from them on FB so had thught they may have passed me. But there they were! Snuck up on on them and said hi, was sooo good to see them! They had just got back from their Fraser Island trip so were worried they smelt bad but they didn't and I gave them big hugs. I was going on a free sunset tour the hotel arrange at 4 and suggested they came along so we could catch up. So they checked in and sorted there stuff out then we met with the guide from the hostel and about 20 others for the walk. Walked for about 30 mins, was soo good catching up with the girls, they gave me advice for the North and I told them about the South. They loved Fraser Island and told me all about their trip and I got to hear about their travels in Asia too, then I told them about NZ. Lots of chatting but the walk was really nice, through a jungly bit then onto a masssssive sand dune! We all left our bags and shoes at the top then ran down. The guy showed us how to throw a boomerang and we could have a go at that and there was a massive sand surfing track from a steep bit of the dune! Me and Hazza had a go, was so steep and you go so quickly! The walk to the top was such hard work as the sand is so soft you were sinking right into it! Was wicked fun though. Got some photos of us together then went up to the top and all sat waiting for the sun set and chatting. The sunsetting over the sand dunes was absolutely beautiful, so glad i had gone to see it. There group were heading back a longer way along the beach, but the girls wanted to get back for showered so I went with them. We bumped into Katie who we went to shcool with which was so weird, can't believe how many people I am seeing from home. So the four of us walked back to the hostel, and I arranged to meet the girls in the bar later. Got into my room to pack and there was a Sweedish girl in there who was also doing Fraser the same day as me. She hadn't been at the meeting. Her name was Cecillia and she seemed nice but was really fretting about the trip and quite hard to talk to. Hoped she would relax a bit when we got there. She needed to go to the supermarket, as did me and Haydn so the four of us headed out. It was absolutely pouring with rain and I got soaked. Trip to the supermarket was not a fun one. We got lost and it took us ages to get there, i thought it was 5 mins away but we were out for ages! I was cold and wet and wanted to get back to see Harriet and Carrie as this was my only night with them. Got some cereal bars, water and suncream for the trip and the others were taking ages so I decided to go back as we'd been so long, but then I got a bit lost and felt really miserable. Just everyhting built up - having the cold, my stressful week, the fact is was raining and i was lost, seeing Harriet and Caz (it made me remember how nice it was to travel with someone as it made me miss home), being worried about my group for Fraser... when I eventually got back Harriet could tell I was upset so I went to her room and we had a little chat and I tried to man up. I knew I would feel like this at times and it would pass, and it was the first time in the whole trip[ I have missed home like that so I just let it out, accepting there's times like that, then we went back to the bar. Was going to eat the rest of my pasta from earlier but we agreed I deserved a treat so went to order from the bar where they do delicious meals for $10, but the kitchen was just closing!! Harriet managed the convince them to do me shome chips which were delicious, massive bowl and only $4! Was sat with Harriet and Caz and some people they had been to Fraser with. It was kareoke and the guy running it had been singing, he was amazing. He had kept asking if anyone would sing and no one would, so when I finsihed my chips I thought why not and went to put my name down. The stage was hidden from where most people were eating so the only people who would see were at the bar and I thought after feeling sad a bit of singing would cheer me up, despite the fact my voice was nearly gone - I just didn't care anymore! Sung a bit of Blondie, was good fun! Got a free drink out of it too because I first to sing! Kareoke guy wanted me to sing again but I said not for now - thought me singing would get some more people singing and didn't wanna hog it! Plus, I wanted my free drink! the guy sang a few more songs but kept asking me to go back up - I really had only planned to do one coz my throat was so bad, but managed to convince Harriet to come up with me and we did These Boots Were Made For Walking and Use Somebody - wish Harriet knew how good her voice was! Being a minx she convince the guy to give her a free drink too, and then he gave me another! Said he'd been worried no one would sing! He had nothing to worry about. More and more people moved into the bar area and it turned into an awesome crowd, so many people got up and sang, we had 5 boys being Backstreet Boys and N*Sync, a girl did an awesome Dizzee Rascal cover, I dueted Shaggy with some guy... ended up going on till 12 when it was meant to finish at 11. Was a really good fun night, such a fun group of people and no one cared which is what kareoke should be all about! Harriet and Carrie went to bed when it finished, was so nice having seen them. I stuck with the people I met and we all sat outside for a couple of hours. Turns out they had all been to Fraser together, which explained why they were all up for kareoke and not shy. They were really nice though and chatted to me like I had been with them the whole time. Kind of made me feel annoyed though as they were the type of people I would have loved to have done the trip with whereas my group seemed pretty reserved. But, I got to have a good night with them which was better than nothing! Went to bed around 2 and luckily slept better than I had the night before!
