So, I was up at 6.30, had my last shower for a while, packed my last few things (I have mastered travelling light so was easy), checked out of my room then still had 45 mins to spare! So got online and sent a few messages and stuff before heading to the bar to sort stuff out. I had asked if I could switch 4x4's, thought I might aswell ask as thought I'd have a better chance of making good friends in another. Realized there's no harm in asking since I have been away, and they said yeah with no questions asked so I went into another gorup which Haydn was in, there was another English girl - Charlotte - who was older too but seemed nice too, 2 lovely English guys - Sam and Dan - and a crazy, crazy guy from Switzerland, called Dom. Sorted out the food and packed our bags into the car. Quite a few people moved qhich car they were in, and we all did along the trip. Out group leader, Murray, was awesome. Some people hadn't turned up so he only had 2 girls in his car, so said some people should move into his. I thought Charlotte would be up for moving with me but she stayed put, so I moved (our 4x4 was the fullest) and Cecelia moved from her group. So Muzza (Murray) was driving the lead 4x4 and there were 3 following him. I would have loved to have driven but you had to be over 21 :-( Harriet said they had been in the lead car and loved it, and it was reassuring to be in the car of someone who knew what they were doing!! We drove down to the boat which took us across to the island, which only took 5 mins! We all went and stood on the top though to see where we were going. Fraser Island is meant to be the number 1 thing to do on the East Coast and everyone talks about it. It's the largest sand island in the world, and the most amazing place I have been. Got on the island and drove along the beach for ages - the beach is called 75 mile beach.... it's actually onlu 68 miles but they thuoght it sounded better as 75 haha! It was beautiful, sand dunes, cliffs or rainforest on your left and the sea on your right, white sand infront of you with nothing but 4x4 tracks. Was great to be Murrays car as he told us all about the island. The girls all seemed really quiet but I was happy to just enjoy the views. We drove inland, was super bumpy, like eing on a rollercoaster!! Went through the forest, its the only place in the world where there is forest grown completely in sand, no soil! Stopped off in a little picnic bit and had lunch, ham and salad wraps, so just salad wraps for me! Wish I liked ham! Glad I had brought cereal bars :-p We then walked round the corner and infront of us was Lake McKenzie. Wow. It is the most beautiful place I have ever, ever seen and I can see why the aborigionals call Fraser Island paradise. I could not fault this place, the sand was white, the sea went from completelyclear to deep blue, like tie dye, it was surrounded by forest, just stunning. There were a fair few people on the main beach but Murray took us to a deserted beach round the corner and we all layed out our towels and went for a swim. The water was crystal clear, even when i was right in I could look down and see my feet clear as anything. It was the first time I had got to chat to people not in my car, chatted to a lovely guy from Qubec called Patrick, spoke to Sam and Dan, a couple from England and the Canadian guys who had an underwater camera which was awesome! After my swim I laid on the beach to dry off, didn't take long as the weather was beautiful! As it got cooler we got back in the 4x4's and drove along the beach to find a camp spot. I had a little sleep on the way back! We found a free camp site, a little flat area surrounded by trees, and you just go over one little tiny sand dune and you are on the beach! We set up tents, I was with Cecilia. Turns out she didn't realize we would actually be camping, and that she "doesn't do camping" (she thought we would be in a hotel) - she was nicknames princess by the end of the trip! Putting up the tent was pretty easy. The sun was gone by half 5, so it felt way later!! I helped Murry put up the toilet tent (for girls only!) as the Canadian girls cooked for our group. Took a while as there were 4 groups cooking individually and the chicken was frozen, but it was worth the wait! The girls did really well, chicken, coodles, vegtables... delicious. After we had all eaten we went to the sea to wash up and then went back to camp. Still didn't feel out group had bonded which was a shame, everyone kind of did their own thing. Murray got us to do a little game (hard to explain) which got us together and chatting, spoke to a few more people including a guy I nicknamed Superman - he was the spit image of Clark Kent! We had a long chat about Superman which was funny, would have sounded mad to anyone else for sure! Got to recognize a few of the characters too... Dom is mental. He had been driving that day for an hour before the others in his car made him swap with Sam, then it came out that he had actually never driven a car before!!!! Sooo bad! Apparently he was mental and his driving was crazy. He was also constantly high and just mad and random, but so funny. He was obsessed with Bruno Mars, constantly playing him on his iPod and dressing liked him too, so that's what we all called him. Dom had gone travelling with a guy called Jullius who never spoke but was hillarious. He was so weird! Would never, ever talk, but would do random weird things. Like when we was soaking wet after coming out fo the lake he rolled around in the sand then sat there with a big grin on his face. No one knew why, it was so so funny. So thats what he was like, but yeah they had the weirdest relationship, Bruno said he didnt want him to be in their group so kicked him out and the 2 of them never, ever spoke, even though they were travelling together. Very strange! Then there was the girl from Birmingham, called Claire. She was sooo loud! Very, very oppinionated and had adopted the Canadian guys as her own - don't think they had a say in that! At first I think we were all shocked by her, she was so rude to people but I think we all warmed to her eventually and we realized that's just her way! She's not for the easily offended though! The canadian girls kept themselves to themselves on the first night which was a shame as they were lovely when they started mingling! They called themselves "Team Canada" and were super duper competative and full of energy all the time!! Found out that Sam and Dan lived in Wokingham where I used to live so that was really weird.... even weirder when I found out later on that they went to school with my cousin Pete then Sam lived in a house with him at uni!! The couple kept themselves to themselves. Charlotte became close with Claire and they shared a tent. The canadian guys were not as loud as I thoguht they might have been, only really spoke to two of them, Tony and Simon, but they were really ncie :-) Patrick was travelling on his own, as was Superman so they shared a tent, I was with Cecilia who wasn't too keen on the whole camping thing... there were two English girls who were together, didn't really talk to them till I had a chat with one of them on the last day and shew as really nice... and I think that's everyone! So anyway, I'll carry on... We then all sat on the beach which was lovely. Cecilia went to go to bed but came back and said that a Dingo had taken our tent! Fraser is famous for it's Dingo's and they are in mating season so realllly vicious atm! We were'nt even mean to leave toothpaste in our tent as their sense of smell is so good, but Cecilia had left a bag of food in there........ not cool! She was right, our tent had disappeared! It had been dragged about 25 meters into the forest and was ripped to shreds! None of our stuff had been ripped thank god (but I havent seen my phone since...) so we had to go and break the bad news to Murray! Luckily he had a few spare tents, Superman and Patrick helped us put up one, but it had a massive rip in it so had to take that down and put up a new one! People had started going to bed, me and Cecilia went into Patrick and Superman's tent and chatted for a while. It was lovely and warm which was nice as I had been sooo cold all night! I was laying down and drifted off! Woke up and Cecilia had gone, the guys were still up, apparently I hadn't been asleep for long. Anyway, unzipped the tent to leave.... there was a Dingo looking at us!! Superman zipped up the tent quick as anything! No way I was getting out when that was there. Anyway, slept in there for a bit before trying to head back to my tent... the Dingo was still there! So I ended up just staying in their tent for the night, there was enough room as they were 3 man tents and I actually slept ok, despite having no roll mat or sleeping bag as they were in my tent!
