Today was a bit pants as I made the mistake of moving hostels... Wanted to move as I had heard Wake Up was really nice, had heard it was really central, and throught I'd have a much ebtter chance of meeting people on the Oz Experience. So, I moved for the right reasons, but got it wrong :-( Got up early and packed my last few bits etc ready to move hostels, then came on the computer and did blogs etc. Got Ross to help me take my bags downstairs and I checked out, then realized I may aswell hang around at the hostel till 1 as I couldn't check in to Wake Up until then. Also, Ross had an interview near Wake Up at 2 so he could get a taxi down with me. So I left my bags in the TV room and sat in there watching TV for ages till about half 12. Me and Ross got a taxi to wake up.... took ages as theres so many traffic lights. Felt we were going further and further from the center and wondered if I'd made a bad decision... Got there and they charged me $86 on top of the $10 I'd put as a deposit! Was paying $23 a night at Wooduck Inn so was like Woooah as that was $96 for 3 nights. First mistake I made was saying I would pay for all 3 nights at once... she said I could pay one night at a time so if I wanted to check out after each night I could. Now realllly wishing I'd gone for that but thought it would be easier to do it all together. Anyway, Ross helped me take my bags up to my room, it is a nice hostel but it is huge. Anyway walked into my room, a 10 bed dorm, and my chances of meeting people on the Oz Ex were gone! Everyone in the room, all boys 1 girl, are there long term! The walls are covered in posters and there stuffs all in draws etc so i felt as though I was intruding haha! What a bummer. But, was friendly as always before going to put a wash on. Sorted out my bags and rang Valerie, as we were arranging to meet at the swimming pool. Then put my clothes in the dryer and left. Like I say, I had heard Wake Up was in the best place but I disgree. Walking to the pool from there, which is in Hyde Park, probably the most central area to everywhere I've been going, was the most unsafe I have felt. Not really unsafe, just felt a bit back street-y. And it took half an hour :-( But got to the pool eventually which was nice, when I got there I found Valerie and got some lunch. Our plan had been to sunbathe on the sunloungers outside but just our luck, then sun wasn't shining!! Were pretty gutted as it would have been soooo nice. Laid outside all the same and read my magazine for a while. Valerie had a little nap then had to go as she was meeting a friend that evening. When she left I went for a swim, had picked a bad time! All the kids had finished school and were in there, and the big pool was shut off for lessons. The little pool was pretty shallow and too busy to swim, I wanted to properly swim. I sat in the warm pool chilling which was nice but my mind wasn't busy and as I have said before, thats when I start feeling lonely!! Lots of families there too which made me smile but miss home. So I got out and sat on the edge and read my magazine which was nice. Left at quarter past 6, did the long walk back to the hostle then spoke to Will. Will is a friend from school who has joined up with a team of 10 sailors including a really famous Aussie who sailed the world on her own aged 16 (her names Jessica Watson and shes so famous out here) and a guy from England called Mike who had done the same. There in Sydney for 1 night doing a press confrence as they announced today they are going to be the youngest team for do the famous Sydney boxing day yaucht race, so its been pretty exciting for them! Watched them on the news earlier then heard about them in the taxi too! Anyway, imagine my bad luck when he told me where he was staying.... the other side of my OLD hostel! Soo typical and not what I needed! So, got showered and changed then, yep, walked all the way back to my old hostel. Someone else from Wake Up was heading that way so I walked with them which made it a bit better. Got to Wake Up and saw Danielle and James for a bit till Will rang to say he was ready to meet me. Walked up the road to meet him, was really nice seeing a friendly face from home!!! Had a big catch up as we walked towards his hostle. He had been for a meal with Jessica, Mike, another English guy called Pete and a girl from Sydney, Alex, who were all on the team. They were also with Emily, who is Jess's sister who helps behind the scenes. Got to the restaraunt and chatted to them all, they seemed nice :) Was soo hungry so ordered some garlic bread, wish I had had pizza though haha! I thought we would be going out clubbing but had forgotten Jess is 17! But it didn't matter because they were staying in a really nice hotel with a pool on the roof! So we went back and went for a swim! It was a heated pool and soo nice! I was still a bit chilly when I got out though (I wasnt drinking like everyone else so felt it!) but laying on the rooftop was lovely :) Got showered, in a nice shower with free shower gel etc haha! Not what I am used to! Then we chilled in one of the rooms. Pete had a double room to himself, Jess and Emily were in a twin room and Will and Mike were in a twin room.... They basically had room for me! Mike and Alex are seeing eachother so were gonna share his bed (she wasn't going to stay over at all but I was glad she did as it was another girl!), I could then have Will's bed and he would go and share with Pete. Was definately up for this because there was no way I would've walked back on my own and a taxi would have cost a fortune at that time! Meant I could then go back the next morning, and meant I would wake up on my brithday somewhere lovely! To top it off, Will had his laptop with him which meant I would be able to Skype home for free! So yeah that was that sorted, obv after how annoyed I was that I had moved to WakeUp it was extra annoying that I wasn't even in the bed I was paying for, but that was paid for and done so I had to try and let it go. Still really annoyed at myself though :-/ Anyway, chilled out in the rooms and then went to sleep and definately felt the differance between and hotel bed and a hostel bed! Lovely nights sleep.
