...Hello New Zealand
Landed in Queenstown at 2pm yesterday afternoon - then man next to me on the plane asked me if I wanted to swap seats so I could look out of the window as we came to land. It was the best view I'll probably ever see! Queenstown is surrounded by mountains and sits at the edge of a beautiful lake. The mountains still had snow on them as its only late spring here - whcih also means its quite cold!! Im in my one pair of jeans and my only fleece as I write this and I'm so pleased I've still got my walking boots because my toes would not cope very well in my flip flops I can tell you! Its absolutely stunning tho and I can see why everyone raves about it.
Got to the Lakeside YHA to find that for once it truly was facing over the lake and was lovely inside - Dumped my stuff and came straight into town to get sorted with a NZ simcard! After never bothering in Oz i was determined to get sorted as soon as possible. When I'd got it up and running I gave Zoe and Joan from Mission Beach a call and it turned out they were back at my hostel where they'd gone to look for me! Lovely to have a welcoming party and we set off for Starbucks for a celebratory drink :)
As we'd vaguely discussed the girls had bought a camper van off a man in Christchurch and were still keen for me to join them. They paid $3000 which was about 1,110 pounds so it was just under 350 pounds each which isn't bad considering it will be our transport and bed and kitchen for the next 2 months at least! Joan is going to stay here and work till Christmas time whilst Zoe and I go off exploring the South Island - think we may be coming back here for Christmas too - this week we're staying with the rafters who were also in Mission Beach at the same time as us (Rafters as in they are white water rafting instructors!) and I think thats where we'll be for Crimbo too whcih would be lovely. Their place has an amazing balcony that looks right out over the lake - haven't taken a photo of it yet tho...
Last night we went into town to the World Bar to watch the tri nation final (Rugby League tho - and I've only ever seen union so spent most of the night being taught the (confusing) rules!) Bloody Kiwi's lost in extra time to the Ozzies whcih wasn't very good! Went back to the hostel relatively early at 12.30 as I needed to check out today to move in with the girls. Have spent today writing up my journal and am now going to see if I can upload some new pictures too - the girls are just coming down to meet me - its a lovely day, and I can see the snow-capped mountains out of the window... Couldn't ask for more!
