- After a late night started slow, headed out around 10:30am.
- The first stop was nearby Hawkers Market (Hong Lim market), however much was closed for cleaning, but did find a good fruit market, got some Lychees, Some Citrus thing (mild) and mango which was great.
- Walked further to another Hawkers Market (Maxwell Food Centre) which was all open, large and plenty of options. Got some large fresh juice ($5.00 for 2) and tried some local foods (fried Banana, Sweet potato balls, Carrot chips, which were not carrot, Spring rolls and Sesame ball thing…) - it all tasted good.
- Caught the MRT (underground Train) to Gardens by the Bay. This is spectacular.
- Went to the Flower Dome first, which took around 1hr to get through. Ethan had a lot of fun photographing flowers and sculptures (which were amazing). Outside it was hot and humid, but inside the domes the weather is cool and fresh.
- Ethan had a lot of fun taking heaps of photos! The space is spectacular and at almost every turn/angle something is interesting and amazing. Spent probably an hour in this dome. Did try to get coffee inside from a café within the dome, but they only had fresh milk… (which surprised me for an Asian multicultural country). The space was in all breathtaking and well worth the visit.
- Then we went into the Cloud Forrest, where greeted by a giant indoor waterfall (apparently it was the highest in the world until they made the one in the airport). Likewise, this was amazing and had a central tower with ramps that meandered through gardens.
- Across both domes, there are a myriad of plants and flowers from around the world, and the spaces are spectacular.
- There are also associated attractions with projected rooms/videos (wall and floor).
- They do make a big point about the need to live sustainably to reduce our carbon footprint which is great, but ironic given the amount of concrete, Steel and glass used to make these massive fully airconditioned gardens… which are supplemented at night with extensive lighting and music. So while stunning, I would not think they are a particularly environmentally friendly gardens.
- On leaving, it was very hot outside, and had done a lot of walking. Went to a Maccas that is within the gardens and sat/had some late lunch (having had a late Breakfast).
- Then walked through the rest of the gardens and past the Super Trees (massive concrete / steel structures with plants interlaced). Also found a huge Baby sculpture.
- Made our way to another MRT station and also worked out the options to get from the Marina to the Gardens for the evening (to attend the light shows at each). Then back on the MRT and back to the accommodation to play Rage!
- Played range for a while, then got ready to head out for the evening. We went to Chinatown station to Hans Eatery (the same place we went to last night), which has good local and Western options. We had some dinner; Ethan had Bacon and Eggs, and I tried to get wide noodles, but despite the lady serving trying very hard to organise what I asked for, which I thought was direct from the menu, I ended up with thin noodles and beef, but it was great non the less.
- Then back onto the MRT to Bayfront station and made our way to the foreshore for the water/light show. This was busy, and ended up holding Ethan up, then on my shoulders. But was impressive use of water, Lazers and light. Watches this though, then off to Gardens by the Bay again to see the light show there. Had to Walk through the 2 Marina Bay Sands buildings (Shopping Mall, and the iconic hotel 3 - tier building). Had to go right to the top of the mall which gave a good view over the mall.
- As the Marina light show and Gardens repeated, a massive number of people (like us) were walking from each side, so there were a lot of people around.
- The gardens show was also impressive, with classic music in sync with a complex light display across the super trees (the man-made concrete/steel ones). Watched this, then back to the MRT (Gardens by the Bay station this time), changing lines at an interchange to get back to Chinatown. We went to the supermarket (Fair Price) so Grandad could get some peanuts. Also found some interesting ciders (Passionfruit/Orange and Watermelon) and an interesting lollies.
- Back at the accommodation, we played another round of Rage, planning for tomorrow (we might do Luge; we were considering the aquarium, but it is closed) and settling for the evening.
- We noticed today that there are no drivers for the MRT, and at the front of some, you can just look out onto the track/tunnel. Also, so far, I have mostly been charged nothing or 11c each time we catch the train. I'm not sure why…
