Had a lie in! Woop! Got up at 0720 ish, grabbed breakfast and then left to go to Saffron and Spice about 90mins away from the hotel to a talk by Devolutt Pattanaik about mythology and belief in India, very interesting, all about how Indians cannot be described as similar to any other religion, or structure in the world. And how it can relate to management practices, how India is so different! Because of different values, in the Q&A session it showed how open he is, and how narrow minded we are especially some people in the group. How there are different rights and wrongs in the world, your right is another's wrong. Is it ok to hurt other species than our own, what are human rights, how come animal rights are less valued than humans rights? We are so narrow minded, people were trying to convince him there was one universal truth, but there isn't. I am aware of how much more open I am than other people here, one man's happiness is another man's sadness, some of the happiest people in the world are the poorest people. Amazon people haven't changed in millions of years, they haven't bettered themselves, mentally or physically, but they are happy! Try not to convert people! Are we accepting of new people. Heated debate to say the least! Back on the bus.
Drove to IIT (Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay) and had an absolutely lovely lunch on the bus, pasta, and a huge wedge of chocolate brownie, so soft and squishy, ate it before I could take a photo! Watched a video about the history of IIT Bombay and then got the opportunity to talk to some students and ask questions about their exam to enter, which takes years to prepare for! The students were just like me, having an intellectual conversation with them was so lovely and makes me think that there are some very motivated and determined and driven students in India, I mean don't get me wrong, Nidhi was clever, but this was just on a different scale, they did so much more and aimed so much higher, wanting to start new businesses and work/live abroad. Conversation was out short because we had to return to the hotel, for some free time. I think I could live in Mumbai, it's 100x better than Delhi lol! Got back to the hotel, took 90mins to get back! Then quickly went to Colaba Causeway with Molly to get some last minute presents. Got the taxi man to take us, wait for us, pop to Starbucks and come back for RS200! Then we have a reflective session at 1730, Nick told us about the future programmes, sounds quite interesting, might apply! Had to fill out lots of feedback forms about the app, the last week, the team and the whole experience overall, handed back the phones and got changed into my Indian dress, also tried to help Louise and Zoe put their Saari's on, possibly not as well as I thought or hoped! Went upstairs to have dinner and party, got a little Ganesh figure to say goodbye and then danced a little before saying an emotional goodbye to Molly and peeps, followed by more crazy sober dancing, announcements-purple didn't win the treasure hint or the points on the app, which we thought we would win! L SO more dancing and farewells before sitting outside for a bit and then going to bed. Last day in India tomorrow!
Final goodbyes were sad, everyone is going to see each other again at the dissemination event in November, but I won't be there, so officially this is the end of the UKIERI programme for me! Programme over!
