Since the times of christchurch Lou-Lou has had possibly the best two weeks of her life exploring the South Island. To help you imagine people, think of being at Uni with a close group of mates living, cooking and ding everything together. Now put that with no work just fun - the best fun ever -then add a foreign country with absolutely spectacular scenery everywhere. get the picture?!
Anyway, sorry, i left Christchurch on a Sun morning and who should be on the bus? -none other than good old tomas! so after catching up and geting to know people on the bus we arrived in Kaikoura (supposedly for Dolphin swimming). It was freezing cold so i soon decided against the many water activities and decided to have a look around taking the dog from the hostel (Rufis) for a walk. We headed out to the seal colony to find nothing but rocks - ( i don't think we walked quite far enough).
There was not much else to do in this tiny town so the evening was spent chilling out (me and Jen went out for a few games of pool in the local bar - we were meant to be looking for biscuits!). It was this evening that i had my weirdest sleep talking yet. I had drunk a bottle of wine this evening and i woke the next morning rememebring some very weird vivid dreams from the night before. The guy above me on the bunk the woke to exclaim 'Jesus i got no sleep last night you were laughing hysterically all night and shouting out random quotes about cheesestring wrappers!' it was then i remembered the part of my dream when Jen had showed me a new dress made of Cheesestring wrappers! Weird eh? especially as i had in fact woken up crying too! no more wine for me!
On the Monday we dropped of a picked people up from the Ferry terminal at Picton. Me and Jen were in fact the only ones that stayed on the bus so we met a whole new crew of people. Soon after we stopped at Marlborough for some wine tasting, then a bit further on we stopped at the bridge where my fav photo so far was taken - first beautiful spot found!
We arrived in Nelson mid afternoon and after a quick shop for soe essentials me, jena dn Anthony marched up the hill to try and catch sunset over Nelson at the centre of Nz - we just made it very sweaty! Our Accom this eve was the nicest so far en-suites and all!
Our first stop in the morning was at Nelson Lakes which was really pretty and we did a walk around before picking a few more people (including claire) up at Murchison.
the majority of the bus wanted to do Jet Boating so we were dropped at the Buller Riverand headed out on some monstwer boat with a mad mad driver - first extreme activity if Nz completed! the evening was spent at Bazils where Nick cooked us all up a massive curry whilst we all got wasted and played drinking games.
Feeeling extremely rough the next morning we did a walk at Cape Foulwind which was one of the nicest walks ever. In fact the drive today was full of stunning viewpoints and good stopovers. We stopped at Punaki pancakerocks and blowholes and also at Greymouth for a quick shop around to find clothes for the fancy dress Party.
This evening was great fun as we stopped at some old hostel (lake mahinipua - or poo pub) in the middle of nowhere and had a massive meal cooked for us then we all got dressed up for a fancy dress party - the theme was S & M.
Thursday 19th brought us the Bushmans Centre where they made Possum Pies and showed us how to cacth deers by jumping out of a helicopter on top of them!!! lol The afternoon was skydive time! we headed over to Fox Glacier, got ready had a small briefing (which was more scary than the thing itself) and before i knew it i had jumped and i was flying high above mountains and the Tasman sea - life changing!
The whole day hike on the Friday was definitely something i won't be forgetting from getting dressed up with talons, to being given out ice axes. We hiked up the glacier, had lunch and made our way through the ice with our guide cutting the way through and making steps for us when necessary. Me and Danny were unlucky on the way back down and being at the back of the group the ice had been weakened and as we steeped on it the floor collapsed - we fell into and ice cold puddle up to our knees and i scraped both sides of my legs along the ice causing them to bleed all the way down. oh well! its funny now!
After Franz we stopped at Lake Matheson which is by far the most beautiful lake i've ver seen - perfect reflections of the mountains and a postcard picture. We made our way to Wanaka - my fav place of the South Island - stopping for lunch i the deserted town of Haast - where there was nothing! Wanaka was amazing and we stayed in Wnaka hotel with baths! so afer a two hour soak we went out to wach the rugby - we won! Wohoo! The next morning i rose early (trying to catch the sunrise) and went for a run - in the dark - i got up far to early! lol We then ge to the funnest place yet - Puzzling World - an awsome place that i could have spent days at. Thats all i'll say you can see the pics and videos.
Making our way into Queenstown we stopped at the Kawaru Bridge oriinal bungy site and Pete took he plunge. We had a tour of the place and learnt about the history of bungee and how bungees are made - this was when i started to get nervous as i paid for my Nevis jump here! Arriving in Queenstown marked the end of our main journey together as people always stay for different lengths of time here. We had a group photo on the side of the lake and a subway and a ferg burger later we headed out to Altitude Bar to party the night away - funny enough people wouldn't join in with my dancing though -i wonder why?! Anyway our time in Queenstown had started! Yeah baby!
