I'm so behind on my blog I think that is a sign that I've been really busy and enjoying myself. As I'm writing this section on new zealand while currently in oz it will be kinda brief!!
Wellington- we stayed in Wellington for a couple of nights. While there we just explored the city and went out with people from the bus.
While in nelson we stayed in fernlodge, which is a hostel attached to an english style country pub with a really nice garden. It was a really bright sunny day so we spent the Sunday afternoon with suzanne and Rebecca drinking cider in the pub garden, followed by beer tasting then a Sunday dinner! It was a good day!!!!
Wesport- stopped at this lake for lunch. I found it horrible experience with sandflys, bees and ducks that were so happy to steal your food and be around humans they would go into your bags etc....not fun!
As we changed buses when we got on the south island we had a new driver. He was really funny with a dry sense of humour. He had several names; a new one each day- Douglas, Lee Roy, Trevor although we found out his real name was jp ( i think! But with him you could never tell!).
At lake Mahinapua we had an organised poo party fancy dress where the theme was to go as something dressed that began with the letter "p". I decided to go as a passport and my amazing costume came 2nd place (as voted for by everyone on the bus) winning me a pole dancing lesson!
The next day was a complete right off due to the amount drunk at the poo party then having to get on a coach going around twisty mountains. We also gained alcohol by washing up the bus load of peoples plates after dinner....so it does pay to come across looking cheap by asking what the cheapest drink is to the bus driver!!!!!
Out next major stop was franz joesph. We stayed in a really nice hostel with amazingly comfy beds!! While there we did a full day glacier hike which was an amazing experience and only resulted in me slipping into the ice once! After the hike we went to the hot springs for a post hike soak.
As we were driving into lake wanika our driver... Douglas that day! Told us about one of the big tourist attractions. At 4.30 everyday the dolphins swim up to the pier where you can feed them dolphin bread. This bread as he pointed out can be purchased from the bakery dolfs. It has to be 3 day old peanut buttered bread! Everyone pretty much believed this and planned to meet down by the lake at 4 to get a good spot! once we started to think about it, the peanut butter bit I though was obviously a lie we began to think it was a lie. One of the guys went to a shop to ask about the dolphins and was greeted by the response are you from the kiwi bus!!!!! This is when we realised it was a fresh water lake and he was lying! A crowd of us spent the afternoon in a roof terrace bar in the sun, over the lake. At 4.30 the pier got quite busy but no dolphins!!!!!
The next stop was queenstown where we stayed for 5 nights. I loved the city and if I was going to work while travelling it would have been there! While there I didn't do loads which was really nice just to go out in the eve, not having to get up early for a bus the next day!!!
Then we had a fun couple of days travelling to oz. This included a 8hr bus journey to christchurch where we had to stay at the airport due to the quake for 23hrs sleeping on the extremely comfy airport seats, got a 3hr plane to Sydney then another 3hr wait while we got another 3Hr plane to cairns!!!!!!
Anyway ive made it to oz 3rd country already :-(. Will update you from here on tuesday.
Miss you all and love to everyone at home xxxxx
