I'm writing this while sitting on our final Island. For the last two weeks we have been island hopping the yasawas in Fiji. The island that were currently on takes 5 minutes to walk around! Last night there were 6 of us staying on it and as it was feb 14th we had our dinner on the beach watching the sunset with champagne before an after dinner game of crab racing; my crab Colin made it to the final round but sadly didn't win!
For the last 2 weeks I have been on Fiji time (meaning a VERY slow pace!) during the days I have spent them swimming in the sea, lying in hammocks reading books, doing amazing snorkelling with sharks and today I even ventured out on a sea kaiak. Although that was a bit intense so I'm writing this then the plan is to nap!! Lucy is currently asleep on the lounger next to me....Fiji time!!
We have had some extremes with the accommodation, one of the Islands we stayed on was extremely basic! When we got on the fishing boat for the transfer the guy told us we were going to be the only ones staying there - que glances between me and lucy! It was just like staying with the family so an amazing experience. The electric went off at 10 so early to bed and early mornings for breakfast! The other extreme was octopus resort where we got upgraded to a private bure with an outdoor shower ensuite, the resort also had 24hr electric. Luxury!!
The food has also been an experience luckily neither of us are fussy eaters as you get set meal times and have to eat what is put in front of you! But some of the fish we have been eating has been really good!! At 2 of the resorts you got to choose from a menu as well!
The evenings have mostly been early nights sitting around with
everyone drinking beer and the Fijian version of s*** head (card game). Although we have had a few crab races, a beach party with a big bonfire and one of the best nights was Spent watching a movie under the stars on a massive outdoor projector!!!
During island hopping we have met loads of really nice people some who we went to a few islands with but you also kept seeing the same faces on the main boat which was good. Were hoping to meet up with some of them in other countries.
Anyway back to Fiji time I need to have my post lunch nap before I go on the snorkelling trip this afternoon to the bigger reef!
Thinking of you guys back home lots xxxxx
