A quite weekend at Knysna…now back to the elephants
We had a really quite weekend, watching films and catching up on sleep, Sunday 4.45pm my favourite time we leave the volunteer house and go back to the park! As soon as I am back I go straight to the elephants! ! Yesterday I caught up on my data entry for the activity budgets and I am starting to get even more interested in the data as I can now compare graphs from a couple of months ago that the previous volunteer did and we can see how the activity budget is working. Today I wasn’t doing activity budgets like I normally would do on a Tuesday but I was helping with vegetation studies, we were looking at some of the plant species on the park, which will be part of the research program, hear. Eventually the species the elephants eat and there preferred areas on the park can be identified combined with a lot more information. It was great to combine what I had been doing the last couple of weeks and now do something which I really enjoyed in geography. Today was extremely hot at the park in the 30’s now, today I recorded Harry who is the main bull in the Herd, Harry and Sally were the first two elephants to be at the park and so Harry is always on rides if guests wont to ride, there were 4 rides today, so we could take a lot of useful information in terms of the activity budget and how it works for recording the elephants which are on rides as another method may well be more accurate.
