Lloyd and Eve go on holiday!
Day 152- We checked out and drove to Nelson which only took about an hour and a half. It had now been 5 days and I was still Ill so we went to the pharmacy in Nelson to see if they could provide any further information. As it costs so much money to go to the doctors in New Zealand a lot of people go to the pharmacy for medical advice. They can't diagnose anything but they can give you recommendations. So after waiting half an hour I was told I could have Norovirus and that if I was still just as bad in 2 more days I should go to a doctor. I stocked up on Buscapan and painkillers and thanked the pharmacist for his time. We had an hour or so left so went to a lovely fish and chip restaurant and I managed about 3 chips and a mouthful of fish with my large glass of water but everyone else digged in to some beautiful local fish and battered prawns. Today was the day we were getting the Stray bus around the rest of the island. We had arranged for the bus to pick us up at 3pm at the YHA youth hostel so headed there at 2:30pm. We all sat in the car waiting and waiting. After 2 hours and many trips in to the hostel to see if they might know a bit more we told Lloyd's family they might as well go and very reluctantly they did, so we said our goodbyes and me and Lloyd waited another half an hour on the side of the road. We had tried ringing the company to find the office closed due to a national holiday and at 5pm we gave up and walked up to the McDonald's to check the wifi to see if they had maybe e-mailed. Lloyd waited outside while I sent a furious e-mail to head office. His family happened to drive past to see if we had left and Lloyd flagged them down, Luckily they had rented an apartment and had been upgraded to a three bedroom so we could stay there with them. We were so angry at the company for letting us down and wasting our time. We went to the apartment which was beautiful, and it was fate they had been upgraded. We knew there was no chance we would get on the next Stray bus in two days time plus we knew we were booked on the bus leaving Abel Tasman in two days so we booked a bus for 7am they next day to take us to Abel Tasman. The family were heading out and as we didn't go out with them the night before, Lloyd wanted to go. My fever had gone and I hadn't been sick that day so agreed to go along. The pub we went to was lovely with lots of home-brews, again I sat with my glass of water but it was so nice to be out. We all got some Chinese food and me and Lloyd headed back as they other three moved on to the next pub.
