Day 147 We left fairly early so we could get to Nelson and still have enough time to explore it. We said our goodbyes and for me and Eve we wouldn't be seeing them again for quite some time. We had a quick look around a few shops in Picton then whizzed off. We didn't stop on the way and made it to Nelson by midday. We checked into our hostel which was more of a fancy B&B and picked up a map. Our first stop was Founders Heritage Park which was like a mini Beamish. The entrance and admission desk was housed in a windmill at the bottom of this small street. Once on the street there were two rows of old buildings and shops- some of which were originals, others purpose built and amazingly some were originals that had been moved from its initial site. There was a fire station, car garage, bank, post office, cobblers, bakery, a couple of gift shops and a few residencies. Unfortunately only the gift shops were actually staffed and the rest were just like mini museums but we had a nice time walking round and there was an old airplane we could look around and a building full of model ships. We ended our tour in the local brewery pub where we were given a voucher for 3 small tasters of beer as part of the ticket. It was good weather so we sat and enjoyed our tasters in the sun. From here we walked a little further down the road to the Miyazu Japanese gardens. They were only small but very beautiful and peaceful. We walked along the many bridges and stepping stones until we completed a full circle. It was a long walk back but the thought of food spurred us on. The family went out for a couple of drinks and dinner as me and Eve made something in the hostel but they came back and took us out for a drink. We went to this great micro-brewery called the Beer House where ordered some craft beers and ciders and then back at the hostel we played some Jenga and Table Tennis before bed.
