Phew! Finally in Sydney chillaxing and getting ready to head to the US! Mum and I are staying in a gorgeous, teeny tiny little hotel in Manly with it's own little kitchen. So on Thursday night we cooked up some stir-fry and had a quiet night in watching the most inappropriate movie, given our current circumstances. It was called ''Rendition" (the one where Jake Gyenhall and Reese Witherspoon got together hehe) and it was all about this guy who is travelling through the US and is suspected of terrorism and they take him into custody and torture him…Mum and I are like um OK…lets not mess with the US authorities then hey! Haha Frankly after watching this movie I'm just feeling damn grateful they gave me a passport at all. Scary stuff!
Sydney is absolutely packed with people for Youth Day and yesterday when I went for a walk along Manly beach, I could see red and yellow backpacks dotted all along the shoreline. They're giving them out for free and they're absolutely EVERYWHERE. People were walking along carrying the flags of their nations and it's pretty amazing and colourful to see! Manly is gorgeous - it's just a tiny strip of land, not much more than a kilometre wide, that sits between the ocean and the harbour. It's a quick (and stunning!) jet cat ride into the city only 15 minutes away!
It's been a pretty cruisy few days just hanging out and catching up on sleep. I've been for plenty of walks along Manly beach and around the wharf area and Mum has caught up with a few friends. Last night she went out to dinner with the mothers group she was part of when I was first born. I made an appearance and was the subject of much oo-ing and ah-ing and oh-aren't-you-grown-up-ing! Haha Then today we went to see a lady that Mum nursed with Vanauatu, and had lunch at the local pub in the suburb where I grew up. We took a drive past my childhood home and down by the parks and beaches we used to visit. Pretty amazing…the parts of it that I actually remembered anyway!
This evening we've just been getting ourselves totally packed up and ready to fly out tomorrow, as we'll be leaving for the airport at 6:30AM. It'll be a pretty big few days because we fly out at 10:30AM then get into LA at 6:30AM on the same day (crazy…) and our four days at Disneyland start then ie. Tomorrow (again…crazy…) so we'll just hit the ground running! But we're armed with water, drugs (of the sleeping variety!) and determination to beat the jetlag!
Must go and sleep now…or at least attempt to sleep, pretty sure I'm too excited to actually sleep! Haha
Farewell Australia!
