After being woken up by lauren as our toilet wouldn't stop flushing(!), we met up with the rest our our group (at the moment only being us 4 and the old aussies!) we trundled off down the road at 8.30 to catch the local bus to Old-Delhi.
The bus was an experience! Like ive said already, the driving is crazy and this is no exception with the bus's! Loud indian music blaired out and a man sat at the front of the bus smacking the side....i think this was to intimidate us as we got on! The sights were amazing...at that time in the morning all the markets are pretty much set up, mostly selling books and fruit!!!
We arrived in Old-Delhi and headed to a Muslim temple, it was huge...apparently can hold 20 thousand peope! To get here we walked down a street which was exacty how i imagined Delhi....people with missing limbs, and people coverering themselves with plastic sheets to keep the flies off.
A group of begging children took a liking to us and sat there literally staring for about half an hour after they realised we were not going to give them money.
We travelled by cycle-rickshaw to a sikh temple which was a great experience. We got given a bit of a lesson on what the religion was all about and them wondered around. Everyone was very exceping. We had to take off our shoes and cover our heads. They had a massive soup kitchen where they made food for anyone and everyone....it looked rough as anything!haha.
The guy showing us about had yellow eyes- apparently a sign of hepititis, so im pleased i had my jabs!
We later went again by cycle rickshaw through tiny streets about 3 metres wide, this is where the local markets were. They sold the most random things...one guy just wondered the streets selling brillo pads!haha. I dont think tourists could have gone down these alleyways much as we had even more stares than normal...especially as we were trying to squeeze cycle-rickshaws down tiny busy streets....quite nerve racking!
Just before catching the metro back to New-Delhi a group of men ran down the street with a body on a stretcher all wrapped up in fours and colourful sheets, apparently thats what they do whan someone passes away.
The metro doesnt seem like it should be in the middle of Delhi, its very modern...but stil ony costs 8 rupees, less than 10p! We caught it to Connaught place and had a chinese meal...our tour guide keeps choosing expensive restaurants...cost me about 2 pounds, and thats expensive here! Connaght place had McDonalds, KFC and an Adisdas shop: very differt to Old-Delhi!
On the way back we got on the wrong train, so had to get off and travel back by auto-rickshaw...a bit scary after our crash but alls fine...and i have my faith back in auto-rickshaws now!
The boys were told they had to change hotels as the floor their room was on was having building repairs...hmmmmm......we reckon they wanted the room for someone else! So i thought it would be best if we all went, as its very early on and didnt want the group splitting up.
So here we are at the new hotel, its pretty much the same. Here for one more night and then off to Agra to see the Taj Mahal tomorrow morning at 6 am!Got a 3 hour train journey....
Had a lush dinner tonight...dined where the locals did...always good!Cost me 50 rupees for spicy potato things with cheese in, tandoori naan and a coke. Thats about 60p!
Anyway, weve been told to make the most of our shower here as the rest of the tour isnt quite so luxurious! So i doubt they will have computers. I'l update soon thought.
Hope your all well, and im not boring you!
