Cameron Highlands.
We arrived in the Cameron Highland in Malysia after a really sketchy drive up from Penang. It seemed to take ages and the aircon on the bus decided to give up on us.... ive never sweated so much on a bus before! We arrived and jumped off the bus to be greeted by a lush cool breeze. It had just stopped raining and the air was pretty fresh. Piled our bags into a mini bus and treked up to our hotel. Lucky for us the hotel was fully booked (strange as we were on a pre-booked tour!) so we got upgraded to an apartment! Our apartment was amazing, a real taste of home. It had 6 bedrooms, 2 lounges, tv's, dvd players, sound system, massive kitchen..... we couldnt believe our luck! A party was definately in order, so we raided the local mini-mart and stocked up our kitchen. We had my Jason Mraz album on repeat as this was our only cd but had a really good night. Amy and Alice the lucky b*****s, got the master bedroom with en-suite and even a dressing room!!!! The next day I was ill, and no, it wasnt the alcohol.... I missed out on the adventure tour where they visited tea plantations, strawberry fields and went on a trek. Quite annoying but it probably was the best place to be ill as I lounged on the sofa with my duvet watching dvd's all day, I even got bought 'sympathy strawberries'!
Our second night in the Highlands was spent having a 'steamboat', this is where you get given all your food raw and have to cook it in this steamer thing on your table. Pretty cool, but we had all the hungry youngens on our table so it turned into a massive brawl where we were all chucking in anything and everything....forgetting about cooking times, and forgetting about the different things that had sunk to the bottom!!! Luckily know-one got food poisoning!
After watching the football at the local pub, and then watching yet another dvd back at the apartment we tried to get an early night. It was probably the most chilled out night we had had ina while actually! We woke the next morning to catch a bus to Kualar Lumpar.
Kular Lumpar.
Seeing as our journey here was virtually all uphill, the journey to K.L was all downhill. We had a luxary bus where the seats nearly lie back flat and are pretty huge with leg rests!
The journey to K.L took around 5 hours, our hotel was based right in the middle of the city so we were really in on the action. We could cross the road and be in BB Plaza that was one of the huge shopping malls. The rooms here didn't quite live up to the standards on the apartment, with peeling wall paper and a dodgy smelling toilet but it was still better than other places we had stayed!
Went into China town for dinner, where there was a huge market. Looked around a bit, strolling around with a beer....probably not the best look! Went to the most hilarious ladyboy show back in the main city....so funny, they really picked on the guys. They also had a live band here, we rocked out for a bit and then went to find the reggae bar. Had a really fun evening.
Had a day lazing in bed and then went shopping! Not too much to do in K.L and missed the group of people going to the Batu Caves as I woke up too late. Bit of a bummer. Same old routine in the evening, apart from starting at 'The Beach Bar' listening to some cheesy 80's hits and taking advantage of the happy hour. Again, went to the reggae bar, which was better this night as the footy wasnt on! Spent my night at the bar as girls got drinks for about a quarter of the price of boys!
The following day Jozef and I visited the Petronas towers, bit of an effort as we got there at 9 and were told to come back for a slot at 11. We grabbed some brekkie in between which was nice. Juat had to go up them, seeing as I probably wont ever be in K.L again.
Melaka.
We caught yet another public bus to Melaka, but again it wasn't so bad as it was a luxary one. The bus station was so hot and sticky. I had to change my t-shirt as i had sweated so much! Think I must be building up the muscles as we having been carrying our bags a lot more recently and mine is really heavy since all my purchases along the way!
Melaka was a small town, and had a lot of character. China Town was really quaint. We had a bit of a wonder around to just to get our bearings. Dinner was just at our hotel restaurant as they had a really cool guy that played acoustic guitar. Wea ll then piled into mine and Laurens tiny room for a game of poker....we are all pretty good at it now!Its a cheap night in.
The next day we went to the waterpark! It was amazing. Dave our tour leader had already said to us that we would have it all to ourselves but we didnt think it would be true!We didnt queue once, and the slides were awsome. Know-one obeyed the 1 person at a time rule, and we had competitons to see which group could get all their members down the slide the quickest! One slide was literally vertical and i got the worst wedgy i think i have ever had in my life! Definately one of the funnest days. It took about 40 minutes to get there so we had a power nap on the way home so we had enough energy for ladies night!
Ladies night was at a really 'malaysian' club. I think we were probably the only westerners there!Women got in free and got 2 free fairly strong cocktails. Unfortunately I wasnt really feeling upfor it, so went home earlier with Dave and stopped off for a Mc Donalds...haha. We really are back in civilsation!
Another rushed morning, packing bags and scoffing down breakfast intime to catch the local bus to Singapore.
Singapore.
The bus to Singapore didnt take long at all. We had to cross the border, and get yet another stamp in our passports...it really is starting to look quite inpressive! The woman asked whether I was in a tour group, i said yes and then realised we had been told to say no! Panicked a bit and then asked her to repeat the question!Pretty funny.
Singapore was just like being at home. When we arrived it started to rain! Everthing was pretty much the same price as home but we managed to find a cheap indian place for food. The hawker centres were also really cheap for food. I spent my time in Singapore just chilling and getting jobs done like cd burning and letter sending! We went to Ministry of Sound and it was amazing! There were about 5 different rooms, and of course my favourite was the cheesy room! We all had an amazing night, and enjoyed the fact that the following day was the end of the tour so we got to have a lie in!
We had a really emotional farewell at our hostel. It was really eeird saying goodbye to some people we had been travelling with for about 6 weeks! The youngens that we had met were all leaving at the same time as us so we all got a mini-bus to the airport together. We are meeting up with some of them next week and then all meeting up in Brisbane on the 20th Feb. Cant wait!!!!
