People say that when you get to Delhi, you want to turn around and head straigt back out again....that was exactly true after our 16 hour over night train journey from Varanasi to Delhi! The train wasnt actually to bad, we had a private cabin so all felt safe. The annoying men callling 'chai, chai' eventually stopped, and i put in my earplugs that i pinched off the plane so got a fair nights sleep!
So Varanasi...its fairly like Delhi except there were less beggers and more men taking a random pee along the side of te street. I had some andmade cotton trousers made to measure that are pretty cool-tees so muc to buy but my rucksack just isnt big enough unfortunately....
We went to an evening candle ceremony down on the main ghat along the GangesIt was facinating to see everyone going about their rituals-burning insence and ringing the bells tat seemed to go on for ever! Woke up early the next day (5am!) to go and watch the sunrise from the boats. People were meditating in the river-thought they were dead bodies, haha. People line the ghats doing their washing-it was so colourful. They battered the clothes in the water and on the rocks, so i was a bit worried when i put my clothes in to the hotel laundrey incase they went to the river to be washed!
Arriving back in Delhi, we hung around for another hour waiting for our taxis. It was so hot, and when we asked for the air-con to be put on he said we would have to pay 100 rupees-what a joke!So after a hectic, sweaty journey we arrived at te departure hotel and sai our final goodbyes to the tour group. It was weird leaving them, as it had all become very familiar an comfortable between us all.
We then got our river(who we still dont know the name of!) to drive us to Jaipur. Jaipur is a massive city and as we only had 2 days there we did the main things....elephant ride and shopping! The elephants were scary, they were so huge...unbelievable.Our one seemed to be well looked after but the boys said theres was being pocked in the head with a big metal spear!
But now we're in Pushkar and its bliss. Its a little hippy village , with a lot more Europeans than anywhere else we have been to in India. The little alleyways are lined with shops selling typical hippy clothes, so Lauren and I were loving it. We went down to the Sunset cafe by the side of the lake to watch the sunset, with bongo drum players drumming away in the background. It was so chilled out, exactly how I imagined travelling to be like!
The boys woke up this morning, but lauren and I decided a little bit more last minute shopping was in order, and seing as we have both done it before it wasnt like we were missing out.
I have already bought a new bag to accomodate all my new purchases!haha, but hopefully will send some home when we get to Vietnam....so start looking forward to its arrival Mum!
Love to everyone x
