Right...so much to tell!
Last night we went to the hotel restaurant which is next door. Its called a food court, as basically it has a few different parts to it and when your order has been made they play some awful digitalised music......so funny. I ordered the vege thalis and was about a pound.I cant tell you what it consisted of as i dont really know myself....something brown, some mixed vege spicy thing and loadsa other bits! The others ordered chinese (!?!?) and it was so spicey they couldnt eat it, i reckon the chefs did it on purpose!
So today, after a nice 10 hour sleep even though the horn honking and the phone ringing never stops, we decided to explore.
We met an American lady called Tracy who we spent the day with at Connaught Place. We caught auto-rickshaws (tuk tuks!) that cost us 5 rupees....theres 83 rupees to the pound! Our driver was nice and spoke a lot of english, but when we arrived at our destination he wouldnt leave us alone!
You are literally followed all day, when one leaves you another joins you!Its as if you are being spied on and slalked all day!People trying to get you into their friends bazaar 'I want no money for my service'....yeh right!!
Saying that, we met a local who showed us to a sikh temple and a hindu temple. The sikh one was amaazing, and its hard to imagine people go their everyday.Music blares out and people kiss the floor. We were allowed into the hindu temple, it was so colourful and people were taking offerings. It was very small and outside there were a lot of very poor dirty people.
Our friend took us to the tourist office to get a map of delhi, as it is so huge.
Later, we went back to a tourist office and booked a driver and some hotels for the 5 days after our tour. We are going to go to Jaipur and Pushkar which are apparently very cool and have lots of hippies dancing on roof tops! We can also ride elephants here! The area is called Rajasthan, and we were told visiting India and not going to Rajasthan, is like going to Agra and not seeing the Taj Mahal! For this trip we are paying a reasonble 70 pound each, which includes everything except food. Our driver will be there waiting for us at all times, and will literally take us anywhere.Quite cool.
Anyway, so, on our way home we decided to catch another auto-rickshaw, this time squeezing 5 in 1, instead of getting 2. About 2 minutes from the hotel, a man got knocked off his motobike adn everyone slammed on the breaks, unfortunately our rather old driver wasnt so quick and we crashed into a white van infront. Everyone was ok, apart from the driver who smashed his head on his mirror. The rickshaw was broken, and we had to run out of the road quickly! All very exciting!Felt so sad for the driver, as his rickshaw is basically his whole life...We then got hasselled by two little girls carrying a baby. They looked so dirty a poor, its hard to ignore them.
On a brighter note! We met up with our tour group tonight. So far theres us, a woman from birmingham in her 30's maybe, an older aussie couple who are retired, and we will meet the rest of the group in the morning.
Went to a great restaurant with the group and ordered a sajid something or other....basically a very nice vege curry! And again, it was about a pound. I think we could eat a lot cheaper, but id rather go where our guide recommends as we wont get ill(hopefully!)And no, we havnt had Delhi belly just yet!
Not sure when i'll be able to update next as off on the tour, and the places are a lot less developed. Haven't been able to update any piccie's either as the comp is just sooooo slow.
We are enjoying it so much, its very very different from home. Some of the sights are amazing and some our just so shocking. Oh, we walked past a school and all the little girls were desperate for the photo's to be takes so hopefully i'll be able to upload them soon to share with you!
Catch up soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
