We took a bus from Mar del Plata which was meant to be like the buses we had seen before Argentina but even for this short two hour journey it was 'Semi-Cama', which meant there was a lovely little leg rest that pulls down from the seat infront.
Necochea was very cold and the sea breezes ripped through our clothes. We arrived at a bus station that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere and we didn't have a map for this town and so we were completely disorientated. We took the local bus into town and got dropped off in the centre, where we visited a few hotels but they were all out of our budget. We took our bags into a cafe, much to their horror, and decided on our next move.A taxi was taken to the beach and the driver didn't give Charlie his change and dropped us off outside an hotel that was closed. We then walked further down the road and found one that was open. The day was spent eating take out food whilst Charlie drank a 1 pound bottle of champagne and we watched the TV.Lisa was forced to have the top bunk whilst charlie lounged in the double bed and laughed at her attempts not to destroy the rickety bunk bed.The next day we walked to the Pine Forest got bored and walked back, visited tourist information which was useless as she gabbled too fast and didn't answer our questions. She also had very bad teeth so there was no way we could concentrate on what she was saying. We then walked up and down the sand dunes to try and get to some shipwrecks but there were factories in the way.We eventually made it to the harbour and saw two stranded boats and assumed they were the shipwrecks mentioned in LP and they were completely uninspiring. The town centre was eventually reached and we booked bus tickets for the next morning to get to Bahia Blanca.
We found a little ice cream shop in the centre and charlie ordered a cone with two flavours but, as you can see from the photo, the ice cream kulak was very generous and there was a dangerous amount of slumping! After seeing this sky-scraper ice-cream Lisa ordered hers in a tub.Now we were both cold on the outside and on the inside. We also found the little park where Lisa swore there was a statue of a man with a steel pole for a leg. This image was seen from the ultra fast taxi but when approached on foot it was a statue of a man that once had all his limbs but they had since been attacked by kulak yobs. We preferred the new modeled statue.
We tried to get food in the evening as we didn't have a kitchen but unfortunately it was the final of the Americas Cup; Argentina were playing Brasil, and so nothing was open until 10pm.We decided it would be safer to stay out of the way and just get snacks from a mini-market.Argentina lost to Brasil 3-0. At 7:25am
Granja was too lazy to get us breakfast (coffee and croissants) as we were 5 minutes early for breakfast. We left and tried to get a bus but it was too early in the morning for kulaks to move around so we ended up in a taxi.
Final Thoughts: Cold, boring, cheating taxi drivers, but has good cheap fast food.
