Lindsey and Melissa's Bogus Journey
We thought we better write a postcard to let everyone know what we have been up to thus far. I am sure you got a general idea from the pictures, but this will fill you in a little more.
When we first arrived in New Zealand we spent 5 days on Waiheke Island at Lindsey's sister's friend's place. It was a piece of paradise. Their place was only about a 2 minute walk from one of the many beaches on the island. We spent our time there exploring, beaching, drinking beers and making plans to buy our most anticipated station wagon.
After that we ventured in to Auckland where we finally got to see the Travellator. She is a beauty!! Way to nice for a backpacker's car really but we love it, it is a Toyota Camry station wagon. We got an excellent deal so were pretty pumped to get on the road. Lindsey has been doing the driving and Melissa is the navigator, and we must say we make an excellent team and have only been minorly lost, or found ourselves on the wrong side of the road a couple of times!! Yes, they do drive on the opposite side of the road but I think we now have it and the roundabout after roundabout... mastered.
From Auckland we ventured to Cambridge for a quick visit to some acquaintances before heading up the Coromandel Peninsula where we proceeded to get rained on for about 3 days, but apparently they really needed the rain, which is hard to believe as everything looks so lush. However, the rain did not stop us and we headed to hot water beach, where apparently you can dig your own hot water spa, but due to the nasty weather, we had no luck. We then did a short hike to Cathedral Cove, which was very lovely, but some of the views were shrouded by the fog and rain.
Next on the map came Mount Maunganui which brought hot weather and beaches. The beach was happenin due to the Surf Lifesaving Competition and the hot hot weather. We met soem people from Britain who we got along with quite well, had a BBQ on the beach and of course, drank copius amounts of alcohol. Yes, we have of course been leaving this part out thus far but I think you all know us too well to think that we would turn down wine and beer.
Now we are in Cambridge, recovering from sunburns and hangovers. We slathered on the SPF 45 and reapplied, honestly mom!! But we are now headed to do some caving, far beneath the ground where the sun cannot reach us.
Until next time, take care!! Keep in touch.
Cheers!
