Lindsey and Melissa's Bogus Journey
Hi Trusty Readers!!
Well, we have had an absolutely amazing week in the Bay of Islands. After some rainy weather on the way up to Norhtland, with a small pitstop at some natural hot springs waterslides (yes, oldest kids on the slides) and pool along the way, the sun managed to find us.
We ventured onto an overnight cruise throughout the islands. We got on the boat on the Saturday night and were treated to a meal as close to home cooked as we have had yet. We then went night kayaking, which was so much fun! The water has natural phosphlorescence caused by some small bugs so every time your paddle hit the water it glowed. We then ventured for a swim after that and your whole body would glow with every movement in the water, very cool. The next morning, we were lucky enough to wake up to dolphins following our boat along. They are so cute! Every time we cheered they would do more jumps and tricks for us. More kayaking, snorkelling and mussel diving and eating sicko things for Melissa throughout the day. It was a great 2 days!
We then figured we should try our hand at sailing in the ocean. So we bought tickets on a large catamaran sailing boat and spent the day on the water. The crazy mates on board even let us drive and gave us an imformative lesson on sailing, so right now we're pretty much ready for a race!
Today we made the trip farther north to a beach called Ninety Mile Beach which also serves as a state highway and has a speed limit of 100 km/hr (crazy kiwis). Apparently 5 weeks ago some BMW sunk on the beach! Once we made it up the beach, we reaced some sand dunes and tried sand dune boarding. Very fun, similar to good ol crazy carpeting just less protection for the skin, lost a bit of skin on the feet.
The scenery here is beautiful and the fish and chips are wonderful! We are sad to leave but are heading back south tommorrow to see what kind of trouble we can get into.
Check out our pictures on the kodak website (directions on message board to see what we are talking about).
We miss you guys and hope all is well at home - thanks for all your messages, you have no idea how much we appreciate them!!
Love LML
