A great advantage of working in a foreign country is you're on a constant holiday!! Or at least you keep justifying things this way!!!
The weather has been incredible again!! After a spell of the wet and miserable, the sun is back! & I cant get enough! Wish it had been like this for FC United's Euro Away!
Fc United of Manchester, the supporters team, the rebels! Introduced themselves to the people of Potsdam and Bablesberg just over a week ago now! A highly entertaining crowd! And as one supporter said to me "There's no DNA for an FC fan!" 'Making friends, not enermies' is another saying which follows the supporters not only around England but the World. The team have travelled all over, invited by other fan own clubs! It's a great atmosphere at the games, constant chanting, laughing and dancing! there's never a dull moment... the message of the club is a great one too, standing against the modern game!
Football everywhere is changing, the money makers love a bit of it, even in the womens game we are seeing decisions being made, not for the good of the game, but for the good of some greedy t***s pocket! The Glazers aren't the only ones taking the game away from the fans... The FA are joining in too, relegating the longest standing women's football team in the history of the sport in England for the big money makers Man City to take their place. With moves like these being allowed what message are we sending the younger generations???
Here in Germany things are different and many other countries could benefit from their example. Fan's are treated fairly, they're respected and appreciated, their views and opinions are listened to. Well without fans, football is nothing! Clubs wouldnt survive without the fan base. Fans in Germany are not priced out of the game either. I remember going to Old Trafford with my dad regularly, but it soon became too expensive for us and not only that but it'd be very rare for us to get tickets next to one another, & I'm not talking just a couple of seats away but opposite sides of the ground! A trip to the footy is more than just for the game. You want the atmosphere, the feeling of belonging, the journey, the stop in the pub before or after the match, it's celebrating a goal together or even losing together. All these things are becoming harder and harder in the modern game...
Berlin grows on me more and more, I know my parents have loved it! They've been here 3 times in less than a year! & they certainly know it better than me! But thats what happens when you live somewhere, christ I hardly know my home country.. No Ive not really done the touristy things like visit museums, joined tours.. Ive explored & got to know the Berlin for me.. I do like it.. But still dream of Africa!

Diane Love the update - particularly the FC United of Manchester trip and the difference in the way fans are treated in Germany
