Queenstown summary......
Got on a bus, 9 and a half hours later we arrived in Queenstown and went to find our 8 bed dorm, where we were faced with 6 boys to share our 8 bedded dorm with, we could tell this as soon as we walked in as there was clothes and mess all over the floor, but we didnt freak, we take alot of things in our stride these days!!
So first day in Queenstown we went to explore, could tell as soon as we got here that it was going to be a much more lively place then anywhere we had been previously. It was really good weather so we went up the Sky line gondola, which basically is vertical up the side of a mountain right in the center of Queenstown, was so high though and i (lauren) found it difficult to step out onto the balcony at the top but liz was good and got some fab photos of Queenstown and its surrounding mountains (The remarkables.. used in Lord of The Rings films) and lakes etc. At the Base hostel it has a really big/ good kitchen so we cooked our dinner along with about another 100 inmates whcih was fun and then headed downsatirs to the bar under our hostel, without barely getting ready as no one really cares about dressing up here so its easy!! Had a good night and it meant that we went to bed a little bit late than opur usuall 9 pm!!
Tuesady we, again explored the town.. booked our activities for the next couple of days, decided to go white water rafting on Wednesday and lauren had woken up that morning and made the decision to book a Sky Dive so she booked that too!!Went out again and went to a place called the World Bar where we got drinks out of teapots was a really good night apart from the 70 year old tramp with a beard on the dancefloor.
We headed into town to catch our bus to go white water rafting... got to the destination and had to change into some sexy wetsuit gear and helmets, the more 'rapidy' river was closed because of lack of rain, so we had to go on the more scenic river route but was still really fun and experienced some good rapids and breathtaking scenerey and even capsised and had a swim/float down the freezing bright blue river:). We went to a place called Fergburgerfor dinner, its a must do in Queenstown its always open and always busy the burgers are so good, even if they are the size of your head!!!
Our Last day in Queenston and it was fly and/or die day for me, lauren as I headed of to do my sky dive, I thought I woulb be having an absolute breakdown but I felt supprisingly calm ....crammed into a tiny plane heading up to 1200 feet! It was an absolutely amazing experience but so surreal its hard to explain it was the most clearest day with no clouds you could see the reflection of the mountains in the lakes, had a really nice instructor too.... So I think i might have convinced liz to do one in Oz!!Pretty chilled out rest of the day saw some people we knew from college and went souvenier shopping!
Its hard to remember everything wwe have done when writing this but we have had the best time in Queenstown, we have got alot out of it but we are off again in the morning back on a bus to Christchurch so we can fly to Sydney..; will miss Queenstowns vibes but we are excited for the Austrailian Experience!
Miss you take care! xxxxxxxxxxx
