Hola!
Another couple of days in - and some more blisters! The nice man in the chemist sold me some great plasters though last night so hopefully they will be cleared up soon! Especially since the only shoes i have that don't rub any of them burst open today! My lovely indian shoes, well i guess they have lasted me 2 years and did only cost a few pounds.
Have had a good few days at the clinic. On monday I did a general clinic and had a chat with the psychologist who works there. Yesterday i spent the morning in the HIV clinic (with a woman with a VERY bizarre sense of humour!) and then in the afternoon I went to do some sex ed in an indigenous school with the health workers which was fun. The school was gorgeous, how amazing to have palm trees in the playground and aborinigal art on the outside walls! I was very impressed.
Have encountered some more truly bizarre sandwiches but also been enjoying the free meals each night at a club in town. There are four free meals to choose from or you can pay 2 pounds to upgrade to a whole range of meals which are all massive and yummy (ie steak, fish and chips, thai curry) - yum yum. Have met two really nice girls in my dorm and we've been spending the last few evenings together, going for meals and chilling out. They are also heading down the east coast but about a week ahead of me but i will probably catch up with them in a couple of places on the way down.
Weather has not been great, hot and humid with some rain - not what i signed up for! However after the weekend it is supposed to die down and get nice and sunny again so i can do some swimming and reading by the lagoon or maybe go out to one of the reef islands.
Had a near miss the other night when one of the girls was reading my 'Oxford Handbook of Genitourinary Medicine' and the swedish girls came in and asked what she was reading. Julia then decided to tell them what i was up to at the hospital. Within around thirty seconds one of them had already told me she had been to a sexual health clinic down in Melbourne, the other disappeared and came back with her trousers undone and pulled down a bit and stood in the doorway waiting to speak to me. Luckily Julie didn't notice and kept chatting away whilst this girl stood there trying to catch my attention! After a good 5 mins she gave up and went back through to her bunk thankfully - i will NOT be holding any kind of clinic in the dorm! She left the next morning - phew! - but i won't be mentioning what i do again!
If anyone wants a postcard then send me you're address! Forgot to get those before i left.
Hope everyone is well, more will follow!
